The Doom That Came to Gotham Trailer finds the Dark Knight battling Lovecraftian Forces

Animated outing Batman: The Doom That Came to Gotham places Bruce Wayne in the 1920s.


The trailer for the upcoming DC animated adventure, Batman: The Doom That came to Gotham, drops Bruce Wayne into the 1920s and sees him don the cape and cowl to battle Lovecraft’s supernatural powers. The images are from Warner Bros. Entertainment, and teases an entirely different mission for the Caped Crusader as he tries to save Gotham from all kinds of monsters and magic. Inspired by the comic series by Mike Mignola, Richard Pace and Troy Nixey, Batman: The Doom That came to Gotham is a 1920s story in which explorer Bruce Wayne accidentally unleashes an ancient evil, speeding his return to Gotham City after a two-decade hiatus. The logic/science-driven Batman must face off against Lovecraft’s supernatural forces that threaten Gotham’s very existence, aiding and confronting reimagined versions of his familiar allies and foes, including Green Arrow, Ra’s al Ghul, mr. Freeze, Killer Croc, Two-Face, James Gordon and Bruce’s beloved wards. Prepare for a mystical, often terrifying Batman adventure unlike any other.

Batman: The Doom That came to Gotham finds Grimm and 13 hours star David Giuntoli who voices the Dark Knight. This isn’t the first time Giuntoli’s voice has come from under the hood, with the actor also providing vocals for Batman in 2021. Batman: Soul of the Dragon.

The supporting cast includes Tati Gabrielle (The 100, uncharted) as Kai Li Cain, Gideon Adlon (Blockers) as Oracle, Christopher Gorham (The Lincoln Attorney) as Green Arrow, Jason Marsden (Batman: the brave and the valiant) as Dick, Tim Russ (Star Trek Voyager) as Lucius Fox, Darin De Paul (Shazam!) as Thomas Wayne and Brian George (Batman: The Killer Joke) recurring as Alfred Pennyworth.

Batman: The Doom That came to Gotham also plays Navid Negahban (Aladdin) as Ra’s Al Ghul, Emily O’Brien (Batman: The Enemy Within) as Talia Al Ghul and Patrick Fabian (You better call Saul) as Harvey Dent, with the trio making up just some of the play’s villains.

Batman: The Doom That came to Gotham will be available on March 28, 2023 on digital, 4K, and Blu-ray.

DC Animation has plenty in store for 2023

Batman: The Doom That came to Gotham is far from the only DC animated outing coming out in 2023. Next month will be the release of Legion of Superheroes, which follows Kara, aka Supergirl, devastated by the loss of Krypton and struggling to adjust to her new life on Earth. With Superman as her mentor, she must face a mysterious group called the Dark Circle, who are looking for a powerful weapon in the Academy vault.

This year will also see the release of Justice League: War World, which is expected to be released sometime in the summer of 2023; and a RWBY/Justice League animation film; and Batman Azteca: Choque de Imperioswho will once again introduce another version of The Dark Knight.
