Outlander ends its run with final 8th season

Unfortunately, after the 8th season, Outlander comes to an end. Fortunately, fans can look forward to the upcoming prequel series.


The Starz hit romantic time travel series, Foreigner, is officially set to end its nearly 8-year run.


The network recently announced this ForeignerThe yet to be released 8th season would indeed be the last. Concerning Abroadr, Starz released a statement on their official Twitter account:

“What an incredible journey with an incredible fan base.”

The series has certainly been a hit for the network and many fans have taken to social media to lament its end.

Foreigner is based on a series of popular books of the same name by author Diana Gabaldon. The TV show stars actress Caitríona Balfe as Claire Fraser and actor Sam Heughan as Jamie Fraser.

The series follows Claire Randall, a married war nurse from 1945 who, after being inexplicably transported back in time to the year 1743, suddenly finds herself in an unknown world where her life is in danger. Claire’s heart is initially torn between two incredibly different men before she is forced to marry Jamie, a brave and handsome Scottish warrior. Foreigner weaves romance, sci-fi, action and history into one epic saga.

Outlander season 7 will air on the Starz network in Summer 2023.

While the unfortunate news that Foreigner will end with season 8 is rather sad for viewers, fans can still look forward to the upcoming prequel.

According to a report by Variety, Foreigner will continue, but with a different premise and actors in the lead roles. The title becomes Outlander: Blood of my blood. The story written by the author of the Foreigner series, Diana Gabaldon, tells the romantic story between Jamie Fraser’s parents, Ellen MacKenzie and Brian Fraser, while also focusing on Jamie’s earliest years, but told from his parents’ point of view.

The series is reportedly in development since August 2022. It will consist of ten episodes per season. Ronald D. Moore, who developed Outlander for the small screen, returns to the series. Matthew B. Roberts is also the co-writer and executive producer of the new series. About his involvement in Outlander: Blood of my bloodstated Roberts,

“Outlander: Blood of my blood is essentially a love story. It will explore how far someone will go to find love in an age where love is considered a luxury and where marriages are made strategically, often for political or financial gain. The title is a nod to Jamie Fraser’s wedding vow to Claire and there will be several names and faces that’Foreignerfans will know and recognize it. Jamie and Claire’s TV story may be drawing to a close with season eight, but Diana continues her literary journey in her wonderful series of books, working diligently on book ten. With Jamie and Claire, and now Brian and Ellen, there’s so much more to come in the ‘Outlander’ universe and we can’t wait to continue sharing these stories with our devoted fans.”

Additional information about Outlander: Blood of my blood have yet to be announced, including who will star in the series and the official air date. But for now, fans can look forward to the continuation of Foreigner provisional.
