The trailer opens with a wide shot of New York City. It is the first time that A scream movie is set in the Big Apple, and it will add a bit of flavor to the movie. Sam and Tara Carpenter have been chased into a small bodega and they rush in, screaming at the store owner for help. But this being New York, the guy waiting to buy doesn’t care, and just tells the girls to get back in line.

Then Ghostface enters. Of course, the man in line still doesn’t care, and steps up to the killer and asks if he has a problem. And he will be our first victim of the trailer. But New York is not done yet. The bodega owner pulls out a shotgun and shoots straight at the killer, but Ghostface proves he’s the only one fast enough to bring a knife to a gunfight.

Then Sam confesses to someone that there is “a darkness” within her, that she has some kind of dark secret she’s been hiding, and that it followed her here. She’s probably referring to the fact that her father, Billy Loomis, was the original Ghostface and she’s haunted by the trauma of having to kill her ex in the previous film.

Holding a cracked and bloodied Ghostface mask, she says she’s sure whatever this secret is will continue to haunt her. That’s when we see Kirby’s back. Talking to Gale, Sam, and Tara, she says, “We share a certain history,” referring to how they all survived attacks from one or more Ghostfaces. Some fans are already choosing her as the possible second killer in this film.

Then we see a large street mural of Ghostface with his iconic catchphrase, “What’s your favorite scary movie?” And we’ve been told that this Ghostface isn’t like the others. We see the main characters enter “a shrine” to all the previous murderers, and here we have all the important movie memorabilia from all the previous murders. There’s a bloodied police uniform that could belong to just about any Woodsboro Police Department officer. The bloody sweatshirt next to it is from Olivia’s death Scream 4. There is a mask of the implementation of Oedipus in scream 2, and it’s attached to the sunset piece where Derek was killed. The wide shot of the room reveals a dark museum with memorabilia from nearly all the great Ghostface kills, along with cloaks from every Ghostface past.

To name a few of these treasures we have: the fictional movie-within-a-movie clipboard Stiches, a drawing of Kirby, Jill’s plaid shirt from scream 4, the frying pan in which the bodyguard was murdered scream 3, the fax machine that sent Tom Prinze into a gas leak, Debby’s suit, Billy’s bloody T-shirt, Stu Macher’s tuxedo jacket and the television that crushed him, Steve’s letter jacket from the franchise’s first ever kill, Tatum’s outfit, Kenny Brown’s baseball cap and a display case full of Gale’s printed works.

As we see Sam walking towards the center statue while keeping her father’s Ghostface outfit, we hear Tara make the decision to execute this movie’s killer. Then we watch Gale answer the phone so Ghostface can offer to play a game with her in his familiar dark tone. Gale isn’t impressed, of course, but when she turns around, we see that Ghostface is already in her apartment as he pulls someone out of view. He throws the body through a glass bookcase, revealing himself with his iconic bloody knife smear. As he stands there, on the shelf below him is a copy of Gale’s book Ghostface returns. Gale tries to shoot him through a door, but it doesn’t go very well.

There are several more shots of possible victims, each in their own precarious situation, either on the phone with the killer or suspended between windows on a rickety ladder. The final scene of the trailer is the one we saw in the teaser, where Ghostfaces pop up all over the subway. The poster teaser has a lot of hints about the upcoming movie and fans are absolutely loving it. We can’t wait for Scream VI appear on March 10.
