Taron Egerton Says He Won’t Play Wolverine, But Doubts He’ll Ever Join The MCU

Taron Egerton is starting to feel that time has passed for him to join the MCU, even the long rumored role of Wolverine.

Many fans have been rooting for a long time Taron Egerton to be cast as Wolverine in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but according to the actor himself, that potential casting is no longer in it. Hugh Jackman has been synonymous with Wolverine for the past two decades after playing the role in the X-Men franchise as its own solo spin-offs. He will reprise that role for the upcoming sequel Deadpool3so fans haven’t seen the last of Jackman’s Logan.

Be that as it may, there are also plans to bring the X-Men into the MCU, effectively rebooting the mutant superhero group. It is not yet clear when exactly they will be brought into the fold. In a new interview with Total Film (via The direct), addressing the Wolverine rumor, Egerton stated that he believes he’s getting too old to play the MCU’s Logan, assuming the new X-Men will be younger versions of the characters. The 34-year-old also admits he’s not as interested in joining the MCU as he was a decade ago.

“Well, the one I mentioned is up for grabs, but I’m too old for it now. I think that ship probably sailed. Yeah, that whole Wolverine thing – I get asked about it and it doesn’t matter what you say , it gets turned into what people want you to say about it. I’m not going to be the guy to play Wolverine. There’s no sign of that being the thing.”

Egerton further admits that he’s not as interested in joining the MCU right now as he was ten years ago, and while he doesn’t quite close that door, he’s beginning to doubt if he’ll ever be a part of that world. given how he sees his career moving forward.

“I just don’t know if maybe I… I don’t know. Maybe I’m getting to the point where I don’t want to anymore. I don’t know. I would never say never, and I really like those movies. I’ve really enjoyed watching them for the past 10, 15 years But whether I… You know, maybe they’re just not the right thing for me anymore I think maybe I’ve gotten past the point where that felt like the right thing [for my career].”

Egerton is still a young man, and even if it turns out that Marvel wants a younger actor to play their next Wolverine, there will still be plenty of time and other opportunities to bring the actor into the MCU. Remarkably, Egerton leaves the door open, even if he’s not exactly holding out hope or campaigning for any role. Maybe he’ll be part of that world soon enough, even if it’s not part of the X-Men that many fans had hoped for.

While it remains to be seen if Egerton ever joins the MCU, fans can then see him as the star of Tetris when the movie starts streaming on Apple TV+ on March 31, 2023.
