Sorry, Little Monsters: Lady Gaga won’t be performing at the Oscars this year.
Oscars executive producer Glenn Weiss has confirmed that the pop superstar will not be performing his nominated song “Hold My Hand” from Top Gun: Maverick at Sunday’s ceremony. The guilty? Gaga’s busy schedule. She’s too busy filming her role opposite Joaquin Phoenix in the long-awaited big-screen sequel Joker: Madness for two to put on a good show.
“We have invited all five nominees,” Weiss told reporters during a virtual press conference, according to our partner site. Variety. “We have a great relationship with Lady Gaga and her camp. She’s in the process of making a movie right now. Here we honor the movie industry and what it takes to make a movie after a lot of going. -feedback… I didn’t feel like she could get a performance of the caliber that we’re used to with her and she’s used to. So, she’s not going to perform on the show.
The Academy Awards traditionally invite the five nominees for Best Original Song to perform their songs live. The other four nominated songs from this year are scheduled to be performed on Sunday: “Lift Me Up” by Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (performed by Rihanna), “This Is a Life” by Everything everywhere all at once (performed by Stephanie Hsu, David Byrne and Son Lux), “Naatu Naatu” by RRR (performed by Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairava) and “Applause” by say it like a woman (performed by Sofia Carson and Diane Warren). It is not yet known if another performer will sing “Hold My Hand” or if Lady Gaga will still attend the ceremony.
