The “Good Trouble” Season 5 premiere picks up right after last season’s dramatic cliffhanger, when Mariana (Sierra Ramirez), Joaquin (Brian Craig) and Jenna (Myra Walsh) collide with an unnamed victim. , who tries to avoid a strange. In an unexpected turn of events, the Freeform series revealed that Mariana’s on-again-off-again boyfriend Ivan (TJ Lenard) was the victim of a shooting after he went on a visit to Joaquin’s ranch out of concern for her. Ramirez teased that Mariana is battling survivor’s guilt.
Ramirez told TheWrap, “She’s always had a soft spot for Evan, and it’s difficult and terrifying for her to be him, or anyone, but I think she’s going to be dealing with a lot of survivor’s guilt going forward.” Is.” “He was there when he shouldn’t have been, and if he recovers, he’s going to have to move on and deal with what happened.”
While Mariana is struggling with the aftermath of the shooting, Ramirez hints that the character’s past traumas come to the surface, leaving some potential Easter eggs for “The Fosters” fans.
Ramirez said, “Mariana’s been through a lot of traumatic moments in her life and I don’t think she’s ever really dealt with it, so that was another thing to add.” “It’s a lot deeper than we all think – I think she really needs to put everything aside and look at herself.”
Although Mariana will have some work to do to cope with her trauma, she doesn’t have to do it all alone, as Callie (MAIA MITCHELL) returns to the coterie in the wake of the tragedy and the sisters reunite in an emotional moment of support. This marks Mitchell’s first “Good Trouble” appearance since leaving the series at the beginning of Season 4.

Sierra Ramirez: He didn’t have much to do with their relationship. They have always worked together; He’s always been there. I am sure everyone can agree that you are supporting them by your silence. It puts into perspective how much Evan means to her, and how much he means to her, because you’ll find out that she legally signed him over as a proxy, so she obviously counts on him a lot. trusts. She also takes some anger out on Joaquin for bringing Ivan with her. Can you tell us about those complicated feelings?
It all goes back to that survivor’s guilt – it’s her taking it out on Joaquin, but really she knows he made the decision to go to the ranch, and he’s an easy person to blame. It’s something that should never have happened — no one should have been in that position. At the end of the day, it was her decision to tell no one, so, of course, these people care about her, they’re going to go and try and find her. But I think it’s really easy to put all the blame on Joaquin, but really deep down, she’s feeling like it’s honestly her fault.
Why do you think Mariana decided not to tell anyone she was going to the ranch? Do you think he regrets it?
I think she definitely regrets it. I don’t think he thought it would get to where it is now. I think she thought she’d be fine — meeting these girls at the farmers’ market, getting a quick dinner to see Jenna. But then things start to get really real on a van ride over when her phone starts to have no service, and she begins to realize what beekeeping is really all about.
Why did Mariana feel the need to take matters into her own hands by going to the farm in the first place?
She really cares for Joaquin; They really bonded – a big reason why they bonded was that they had strained relationships with their sisters, and they both helped mend those relationships. Mariana is very independent – I don’t think she really knew what she was doing…. She’s already got a restraining order against her – As far as finding her sister goes, it’s probably That’s the end of the road for him – so I guess I need to take matters into my own hands.
On top of all these complications, Mariana was also figuring out her romantic feelings for Joaquin and Ivan. Where is she standing now?
It’s going to be very interesting to sort out this season because it’s something that’s not really on her priority list, but it’s clearly up there. She has a history with both boys, and I think it’ll be interesting to navigate what happened after that — you’ll definitely see a little bit of change this season.
She is also given the responsibility of being Ivan’s proxy. What was going through her mind when she was told she would be acting CEO of Speculate?
It’s kind of triggering to go back to the place that he has such hard feelings about, where people don’t respect him, you know, the bro-hole energy in there. The last time she set foot in Speculet, she was gone and stood up. We all know there’s a leader in Mariana, but that means she’s going to have to put bulk beauty on the back burner — I know she doesn’t want to do that to her girls.
She’s about to feel a lot of pressure running a company – she’s never done it before – but she’s also trying to make decisions she knows Ivan will approve of, and she doesn’t have the opportunity to talk to him Is… she’s just hoping that everyday she can make the right decisions.
Did she want Evan to discuss making her his proxy beforehand?
She is certainly very blind to it. I don’t think they’ve ever had a conversation like this. I don’t think he ever thought that he would give her that type of responsibility, and that he would trust her so much.
