9-1-1 star Peter Cross on filming action scenes without gear

(This story contains spoilers from “9-11” Season 6, Episode 12, titled “Recovery”).

“9-1-1” found the resolution to a major cliffhanger from season 6 in Monday’s all-new episode, giving Peter Krause’s Bobby Nash a heroic performance as he avenges his sponsor’s death.

In a storyline drawn from Headlines, Bobby and Athena (Angela Bassett) follow their investigation into a corrupt rehabilitation facility in Los Angeles, where they suspect foul play from Bobby’s longtime sponsor and friend Wendell (Maurice J. Irwin). ). The episode follows Bobby revisiting important moments from his past with Wendell, while he works in the present day to seek justice for his friend’s death.

After attending to a patient connected to Wendell’s death, Bobby learns that Wendell was helping him plant a bug inside the facility to expose the director’s misconduct. As he suspected in earlier episodes, the facility was secretly placing its patients on drugs to increase their dependence on their program. When Bobby confronts the directors of the facility for their crimes, he finds himself fighting for his life after his house is set on fire with Bobby and his new friend. Viewers see Bobby run in and save the life of the patient he was helping, without his firefighting gear or his team to back him up.

“Taking all of that away from him was really interesting. We realized those fire scenes, we were prepared enough to protect our skin and things like that, but I didn’t have the extra protection, the fire gear.” The incredible protection it provides for you,” Krause told TheWrap of filming the action sequence.

“For the audience, I think you know, we’ve come to raise the bar for a television series action, you know, it’s definitely not your typical process, which is fun,” he said. “I’ve gotten into the habit of putting myself in dangerous situations for the sake of the show.”

In flashbacks, it is revealed that Rogue and Wendell were caught sneaking around in the director’s office and she forced Wendell to take drugs in order to keep her cover intact. Tragically he died after taking an overdose of drugs, and the facility took him elsewhere and covered up his death as an accident.

The big action sequence ended with a huge twist, as the directors of the facility attempted to frame Bobby for setting the fire and he was arrested. Luckily, Bobby’s patient friend awoke in time to share with Athena the truth of what had happened in the house. The investigation ended with the arrest of the directors of the facility and justice served. Viewers also saw Bobby take a huge personal leap forward as the episode ended with the hope that he would help a new man begin his journey to sobriety.

For Krause, the opportunity to headline an action-packed, Bobby-centric episode is always fun, but the personal side of the episode was one of the biggest highlights.

Krause said, “It was very enjoyable for me as the character to get to a place where Bobby feels that he can carry forward this kind of self-forgiveness, self-love, that Wendell provided him.” Is.” “We all need these positive relationships in our lives. But Bobby, you know, without 118 and without the team and the family I think would be really lost. So these relationships and their love, I think really helps them.

Krause also noted that her big episode this week also had her teaming up with Bassett’s Athena on the case. He stated that “9-1-1” is one of his favorite parts on the cast whenever the show gives Bobby and Athena the chance to work on investigations together, which he compared to the show’s OD from the ABC classic series “Heart”. From To Heart,” starring Robert Wagner and Stephanie Powers.

For the rest of the season, Krause teased that he was feeling overwhelmed by the work he was doing for the upcoming season 6 finale. Though he remained tight-lipped on specifics, the actor revealed that there will be another major Los Angeles disaster for firefighters and crew before the show ends for the season.

“It’s really like a comic book brought to life by first responders, you know, the damage each of these characters have suffered over time, and they keep bouncing back. I love that this show Cross said. “It’s almost like a Roadrunner cartoon where we’re all Wile E. Coyote, beating the fuck up and we’re bouncing back.”
