Hulu just released the official trailer for Quasi. The latest comedy from the Broken Lizard comedy troupe, the film will be the first made by the group together since 2018. Super troopers 2. In 2021, it was announced that they would be the next spoof The hunchback of the Notre Dame with their historical comedy Quasi, although not much was revealed about the project at the time. We now know that the Searchlight Pictures movie is headed to Hulu for a streaming release on April 20, 2023, and you can get a sneak peek by watching the brand new trailer below.
In the film, according to Hulu, “A hapless hunchback yearns for love, but finds himself in the middle of a murderous feud between the Pope and the King of France when each orders the hunchback to kill the other.”
Broken Lizard’s Kevin Heffernan directs Quasi, which was written by the comedy troupe as a whole. The film also stars the old members of the group Heffernan, Jay Chandrasekhar, Steve Lemme, Paul Soter and Erik Stolhanske. The Orville‘s Adrienne Palicki also shines. Quasi is produced by Richard Perello and co-executive produced by Matthew Medlin and Peter E. Lengyel. The Broken Lizard team all served as executive producers.
The film anticipates Disney attempting a live-action adaptation of The hunchback of the Notre Damethough more specifically their version will reimagine their cartoon version of the story released in 1996. The movie titled hunchbackwas first announced in 2019 and is scheduled for release in 2024.
Broken Lizard is back with Quasi
“I’m très, très excited to get the Broken Lizard gang back together, but I’m even more excited to finally start using my PhD in French Medieval Studies. It’s been a long time coming,” director, star and executive producer Kevin Heffernan said back when the project was first announced.
DanTram Nguyen and Katie Goodson-Thomas of Searchlight Pictures added: “We love Broken Lizard and are always excited to work together. Kevin, Steve, Jay, Paul and Erik are a heady, talented and hysterical bunch. We’re looking forward to looking forward to seeing them add their raunchy charm to this satirical version The hunchback of the Notre Dame.”
Broken Lizard’s history dates back to the mid-1990s. The comedy troupe released their first movie, Puddle Cruiserin 1996, though they made a big splash when they debuted their comedy Supertroopers in 2001. Before following that up with Super troopers 2 by 2018, the group had also released the comedies club fear in 2004, Beer party in 2006, and The Slammin’ Salmon in 2009. Jay Chandrasekhar also directed the Dukes of Hazzard movie released in 2005 with cameos from the other group members. They would also produce the 2012 comedy Free loaders while having small cameos in the movie.
