Best Original TV Series is coming to Hulu in April 2023

In 2019, Disney Hulu under their control. Just a few months later, they launched their own streaming service with Disney+. Someone would think that having two streaming services under one roof is too much for any company, but since Disney is the largest media company of all time, this is not true. It seems that Hulu plays a different role than Disney+. While Disney+ offers more family-oriented content and the production of their biggest titles such as Star Wars, Marvel and Pixar, Hulu offers us a wider variety of programs, sometimes more aimed at adults, even if they are not the most famous titles that everyone knows.

Pretty Baby: Brooke Shields Season 1 (April 3)

In 1978, a historical drama titled Handsome baby, directed by Louis Malle, written by Polly Platt, and starring Keith Carradine, Susan Sarandon and most notably Brooke Shields. It was a story about a 12-year-old girl who grew up in a red-light district brothel in New Orleans. It was based on a true story of a girl who was raised by her prostitute mother and eventually became one herself. Aside from the film’s critical acclaim, it was severely and rightly criticized for portraying child prostitution and the naked body of a 12-year-old at the time Brooke Shields.

Now, more than forty years later, Brooke Shields is tackling these issues head on Beautiful baby: Brooke Shields. We follow the actor, model and icon as she tries to regain her power after being sexualized at such a young age. Together with her we discover the dangers and victories she has had to endure in her life, but also the ugliness of the hostile world of the film industry.

The Good Mothers: Season 1 (April 5)

This show begins with the disappearance of Lea Garofalo and her daughter Denise Garofalo. These two had a plan; they wanted to end the whole existence of mafia ‘Ndrangheta. We follow Anna Colace, a prosecutor in Calabria, who, while fighting criminal gangs, devises a strategy to undermine the power of the gangs by influencing the female members and disrupting the power structures. Although this plan put many women at risk, the plan must work towards a better future for them, their children and the environment in which they live. The good mothers is a British-Italian production directed by Julian Jarrod and Elisa Amoruso, and based on the novel of the same name by Alex Perry. The insane premise of the story may sound unbelievable and far-fetched, but like many crazy things, it’s also based on true events.

Am I being unreasonable? is a dark comedy-thriller and the first season contains six episodes, but it has already been renewed for a second season. The show is written by the two protagonists, Daisy May Cooper and Selin Hizli. May Cooper is a winner of the BAFTA TV Award for Best Female Comedy Performance for her role in the series This country in 2018, while Hizli is one of the few graduates of the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. This twisted comedy follows Nick (played by Cooper), a grieving and depressed mother trapped in an unhappy marriage with nothing to share. She finds a kindred spirit in Jen (played by Hizli), they share booze and companionship, but beneath the surface they both have secrets in their lives that they don’t want to reveal.

Saint X Season 1 (April 26)

A young woman is found dead while vacationing with her family in the Caribbean. Years later, her sister is still obsessively searching for answers. In the psychological thriller drama Saint X, we follow multiple timelines and perspectives, putting a new spin on the missing girls genre. Based on Alexis Schaitkin’s novel of the same name, it explores themes of privilege and race. The series is written by Leila Gerstein, known for her previous work on shows like The Handmaid’s Tale, AmericaAnd Heart of Dixiewhile directing responsibilities lie with Dee Rees, known for Mudbound And Pariah.

“From the moment I read Alexis Schaitkin’s wonderful novel, I knew I wanted to edit it. The novel has textured characters, a multi-layered world, surprises, and themes that intrigue me as a writer, and I was so excited to expand on what Alexis set up. Like the book, the show addresses very real issues such as grief, class, race, and the culture’s obsession with dead white girls, while set in a beautiful location with a great mystery that propels us toward the end.” said Gerstein. Saint X stars Alycia Debnam-Carey as Emily Thomas, known for her work on Fear the walking dead.
