Two new movies, one week and only Rs. 10 crores in the final tally – That was the stand of two Bollywood movies that came out last Friday. Neither HIT – The first case nor Shabaash Mithuss couldn’t find a single buyer, as they didn’t open well, neither saw momentum over the weekend and then completely crashed during the weekdays. Frankly, even in the worst case scenario, this wasn’t the kind of box office outcome one would expect from one of the two films that boasted of good references in the beginning.

However, both films were aimed at the multiplex market, and that too in upscale centers. There is nothing wrong with that as even that would have allowed at least Rs. Even in the current market situation, 20-30 crores would have come in if the reception had been even half decent. However, that turned out not to be the case. HIT – The first case got better reviews and kind of took off and went past the Rs. 1 crore mark on the first day. However, there was no real follow-up per se and as a result only Rs. 7.50 crores* came in.

On the other hand, Shabaash Mithuss did almost a third of that as just Rs. 2.75 crores* came in. That makes it an absolute non-performer, as it is one of the lowest commercial earners of 2022 and there’s nothing to salvage any of its positioning. Simply put, there was no interest among the public to watch it and that was reflected in no word of mouth and absolutely terrible traction.

Between the two films around Rs. $10 million has come in and that’s an extremely disastrous result, as there won’t be anything more coming from this point for either of the two movies, meaning it all comes down to how they’re doing on the OTT.
