The Marvel Cinematic Universe character of Emilia Clarke, who will debut on TV series “Secret Invasion,” has been identified in a Vanity Fair Interview.
The upcoming Disney+ show follows Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) as he investigates a covert conspiracy to place potential double-crossers in powerful positions around the world. The double agents turn out to be Skrull aliens, who can shape-shift into any existing human being from their green-skinned resting state regarding their physical appearance.
Fury confronts the Skrulls in “Captain Marvel” (2019), set in the 1990s, promising their leader Talos (Ben Mendelsohn) to find them a place to live after their home planet is destroyed.
Jackson references the “Captain Marvel” scene in which Talos reunites with his Skrull family on a space station in Earth orbit as the character’s first glimpse of Emilia Clarke.
“Remember when Ben was with his wife and daughter?” Jackson told VF. “That little Skrull girl is all grown up. She’s their daughter.
Clarke will play the grown-up Gia (pronounced “cow-ah”) who sees her father as a failure at parenting and leadership.
“It definitely rocks her. You kind of get a punk feeling from this girl,” Clarke said. “She’s a refugee kid who has Talos for her father, you know what I mean? Perhaps the fact that we didn’t know he had a child until this point tells you everything you need to know about their relationship.
Much time has passed since Fury made this promise, and the Skrulls, led by resistance leader Grevik (Kingsley Ben-Adir), have decided to take matters into their own hands in a not-so-friendly way, which has radicalized them.
“These guys promised a lot of things a long time ago, and a lot didn’t happen. So naturally, a certain amount of resentment has built up,” Clarke said. She lives there, and has a lot of conflicting aspects of her character that come from circumstances. You understand why she has the feelings that she does.
The series will also star Oscar winner Olivia Colman. “Secret Invasion” arrives on Disney+ June 21, 2023.
