It’s Easter weekend, so naturally “Saturday Night Live” did an Easter-themed cold open. But this week the news has gotten crazier, and so “SNL” found a way to associate Easter with Donald Trump.
In this case, the show basically barely parodied the disgraced former president with a cold open sketch that featured James Austin Johnson’s Donald Trump impression interrupting a recreation of the Last Supper to compare him to Jesus Christ.
Or rather, he compared himself to the “Jesus of Azkaban,” which sure sounds a little like the real Donald Trump.
The sketch began with a narration explaining the context of the Last Supper, then came the sketch, which is probably a trillionth parody of Leonardo da Vinci’s painting in which Mickey Day portrays Jesus. We assume that you are familiar with the Last Supper that Jesus Christ had with his followers before he was arrested and then crucified, and thus can pretty much guess how this part of the sketch went. If not, please, we request you, read A Book.
Then shortly after the part where Jesus tells his disciples that one of them will betray him, he says, “Although I have done no crime, I will be arrested.” At this point, they all froze and Johnson came out as Trump.
“Known?” He asked. “A” a famous wonderful person arrested without any reason. In case you guys haven’t put it together, I’m comparing myself to Jesus again and what better time than his birthday, Easter.
Johnson’s Tramp complains that he is being “persecuted to a level the likes of which the world has never seen, worse than the heavenly, great Jesus,” before declaring that he and Jesus are very similar, especially since ” We are both white Americans.
Johnson’s Tramp bragged that when Jesus rose from the dead in (according to the Christian Bible) three days, “I would have done it faster,” and then he noted another similarity between himself and Jesus: “He had my There were big rallies like this, and many of his followers got into big trouble like me.
Things went on like this for a few more minutes—at one point “SNL” borrowed a joke from “A Very Harold and Kumar Christmas in 3D,” referring to Jesus as a Nepo baby, and of course There was also the moment when Johnson was compared to Trump. himself to “Jesus of Azkaban” before reaching the “Live from New York…” portion of the sketch. You can see a large portion of the sketch at the top of the page right now.
