‘Beef’ Will Stew In Limited Series/Anthology Category For This Year’s Emmy Awards

Sorry “Beef” fans, but it looks like you won’t be able to watch Steven Yeun and Ali Wong fight badly forever as Netflix has unveiled the much-talked-about new title as a Limited Series or Anthology candidate, the streamer he said on Tuesday.

The A-list comedy-drama about two Angelenos (Steven Yeun and Ali Wong, surefire contenders for acting awards this season) who turn to wild antics aimed at each other’s livelihood after exchanging tirades and profane gestures in a parking lot, has been a talking point in pop culture circles since its premiere on Netflix on April 6.

Critics and audiences alike have praised the outstanding performances of the two leads, the energetic storytelling courtesy of showrunner Lee Sung Jin (former “Silicon Valley” writer-producer), and the vibrant portrayal of Asian-American families.

This move, however, doesn’t mean “Beef” can’t return in some capacity, as many have whispered that it could go the way of HBO’s “The White Lotus” and eventually change its status to a drama series. Whether any of its current cast remain remains to be seen, but given the rarity of popularity and recognition “Beef” has received, it is expected that it will reappear at some point.

“Beef” joins an already impressive list of Emmy contenders in the limited series/anthology category, which includes FX’s “Fleischman is in Trouble,” Apple TV+’s “Black Bird,” Apple TV+’s “Daisy Jones and the Six,” Amazon and Netflix’s “Dahmer Dahmer.” — Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” as possible other nominees in the always-competitive category.

Variety first reported the news on Tuesday.
