Sarah Snook enters the Emmys lead actress category for ‘Succession’

Shiv Roy takes his rightful place, center stage.

TVLine has confirmed that after three years of competing in the Emmys Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series Race, SuccessionSarah Snook will enter the lead actress category this year.

Snook makes the jump to lead at a consequential moment. As Succession is currently in its fourth and final season, this will be its final year of eligibility for its role as Shiv. And the actress comes out with a bang, earning praise for her work in Season 4, especially in the pivotal third episode (which revolved around the death of Brian Cox patriarch Logan). TVLine honored Snook as Performer of the Week for his “delicately crafted” and “masterful” work at this hour.

News of Snook’s upgrade follows the word (from our sister pub Variety) that his on-screen brother Kieran Culkin (Roman) will make a similar leap from lead support to the 2023 Emmys, where he’ll take on his co-star (and former lead actor champion) Jeremy Strong (Kendall).

“If you ask if [Roman] is a main character, so I would say absolutely,” Culkin told the site. “I think this season was set up before episode three happened as Logan versus Shiv, Roman, Kendall. And then [Logan] happens, and that’s what I think is the central focus of the series – the three.

One lingering question: Given Cox’s early departure from Season 4, will the veteran actor transition from starring role (where he was in Seasons 1-3) to supporting?
