King of the Hill Revival series will feature a “slightly more modern sensibility.”

The animated series king of the Hill is being resurrected at Hulu, and the new show will serve as a bit of a follow-up series by giving the story a bit of a time jump. It will reportedly be 15 years since we last saw the character, but for the most part they’ll be pretty much as fans remember them. One key difference, as explained by 20th Television Animation’s Marci Proietto, is that the revival will have an updated vibe so the show will feel more “modern”. Proietto teased so much when discussing what’s next for that show, along with a resurgence of Futurama that’s also in the works at Hulu.

“I always felt that both shows had more stories to tell,” Proietto told Emmy Magazine via ScreenRant. Viewers can expect the same great humor and great writing style they love Futuramait’s like catching up with old friends in the most amazing way, and for king of the Hillit’s seeing the characters we love with a slightly more modern sensibility.”

Stephen Root, who plays Bill Dauterive on the series, recently confirmed the plan for the revival with a time jump. He told ScreenRant, “I think we’re going to put a little bit of time into this so that Bobby gets older, and it gets interesting. We start reading tables in April, so I’m so looking forward to it.”

It is expected that most if not all of the remaining main cast members from the original king of the Hill will return. Brittany Murphy (Luanne Platter) and Tom Petty (Lucky) have since passed away, and it’s unclear whether their characters will feature new cast members or whether they will retire. Other cast members include series co-creator Mike Judge (Hank Hill, Boomhauer), Pamela Adlon (Bobby Hill), Kathy Najimy (Peggy Hill), Johnny Hardwick (Dale Gribble), Stephen Root (Bill Dauterive), Toby Huss (Kahn ), Laquren Tom (Connie, Minh), Ashley Gardner (Nancy Gribble) and Jonathan Joss (John Redcorn).

king of the Hill was created by Mike Judge and Greg Daniels. The original show aired for 13 seasons between 1997 and 2010. It mainly follows the Hills, a family living in Arlen, Texas along with their neighbors. As it sounds, the revival will feature many of the same characters, but now 15 years older, as they deal with more “modern” issues where Hank and Co. hadn’t encountered when we last saw them in 2010.

“We are all so excited to welcome Hank, Peggy and Bobby back, and to see what they have to say about the world we live in and to continue the conversations we started years ago,” an official statement read. of ABC Entertainment’s Craig Erwich, back when the revival was announced in January, “This show has all the perfect ingredients to meet this moment in animation at Hulu, and we’re so thankful to have those conversations with this talented group.”

The king of the Hill revival series has no premiere date yet.
