Manoj Bajpayee is a class-A actor. He is one of the best who has always proven himself to be one of the most versatile actors in the business. From Gangs of Wasseypur to The Family Man, Manoj Bajpayee’s filmography boasts some of the most critically acclaimed projects. Next for him is Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai. He plays the role of a lawyer in an intense courtroom drama. It is the story of a man against a powerful self-proclaimed God-Man. The movie’s trailer is out and it’s already gotten a thumbs up from everyone.
In an interview with BollywoodLife, Manoj Bajpayee shared why Bandaa is a must-watch for every member of the family. Here are the excerpts from the interview:
How did you prepare to become a lawyer in Bandaa?
I mean the preparation is always mostly the same. You know the investigative materials the director provides you and the meetings with the director on the minute details of the proceedings and meeting with a lawyer or two and all the experiences I’ve had with all the lawyers. So for me it’s been a month of work working on all those details and then creating the character, creating the backstory, preparing the characterization, you know, talking out the relationship with different, different characters. All that, I mean how can I tell you, you’ll never understand what we all do. It’s a craft. So it’s a craft, it’s preparation for an actor, which we do a month or two before the movie starts.
Was there a specific case for reference given that the movie is inspired by true events?
There is no specific case here. But there are a lot of cases, you know, that have happened in the past. Many are still pending, verdicts pending in court. Many proceedings are still pending. But the focus is on the safety and security of a teenager, of a child, in our society. That is the focus of the film. Making people aware of the danger lurking around all children and how vulnerable they are. And how it is the responsibility of the parents, of society, of everyone to protect the children. Secure them, to protect them. Not only from the other outsiders, but especially from the people they know through their parents, through their relatives. It is very important to protect them from everyone. And monitor your child’s activity and movement.
Why a direct OTT release for Banda?
Look, Zee Studios is the sole owner. They have their surveys and research. And accordingly, they decided they should go straight to OTT and not theatrical release. It’s their research and their survey and that’s how they made the decision. But we’re also talking and thinking about releasing it a week after streaming. In 10-15 single screen theaters in North India, just to check the mood of the theatergoers. We want to see how they react to that. That’s a great move by Zee Studios and Zee 5. But one thing I know that this story is very important for the family members to watch. Not just for the story and for the movie, for everyone’s fantastic performance but also for the fact that how important it is for them to be aware of the danger that the child is always vulnerable to. So it is very important that every family member looks at it. And to do that, it was also a wise decision to take it home. Take it to their homes and let them look at it. So the OTT is the best way to get into those houses and make them sit and watch this movie for the sake of their children, for the safety of children.
Banda will be released on Zee 5 on May 23. The trailer promises that the movie will be a very gripping and impressive watch for everyone.
