Her obsession leads her to rescue Eric, a prince who has an accident when his ship is caught in a storm. After rescuing him, Ariel falls madly in love and wants to see him again, so she makes a pact with the evil witch Ursula, who offers her the chance to spend time on the surface in exchange for her vote.

When Ariel finally surfaces, they meet again, but he doesn’t recognize her because she can’t speak. She has only one goal: to get him to kiss her and become human forever, to get her voice back.

What she couldn’t imagine is that it was all part of Ursula’s plan to take the kingdom and power from her father. Ariel will have to ally with her friends to stop the witch, save Triton, the world under the sea, and fulfill her dream of living on the surface with Eric.

While the remake will follow the same plot of Disney’s animated classic, it has a longer running time, meaning details have been added to the story and some songs. But surprisingly, others have also been removed, a very iconic one in fact. However, there is a good reason for this.

Speak with ComicBook. comlegendary composer Alan Menken revealed the reasons behind the removal of the song that appears in the opening sequence of the animated version:

“I think the thought process was a) we didn’t need it in this particular cut. And we definitely wanted the movie to start with a much more live-action feel of the ocean and meeting Ariel, and then we wait a little bit , make you wait until we get to ‘Part of Your World’ And I think that was, you know, a great choice because it just builds the power and anticipation And part of that is also knowing that you’re adjusting something that already loved. So you want to say, wait for it, wait for it, and here it is. And when it comes, god.”

The little Mermaid stars Halle Bailey as Ariel, Jonah Hauer-King as Eric, Daveed Diggs as Sebastián, Awkwafina as Scuttle, Jacob Tremblay as Flounder, Javier Bardem as Triton, and Melissa McCarthy as Ursula. The film will hit theaters on May 26.
