‘When I get excited…well, never mind’

Six months after suffering severe burns to his face during a fire in his car garage, Jay Leno laughingly explained to Chris Wallace where his skin grafts came from. And the comedian still knows how to deliver a punch line.

“People think skin grafts are expensive,” Leno said on Friday’s episode of “Who’s Talking With Chris Wallace” on Max. “But I have a friend who’s a Mohel, and she gave me a bag of them! You can’t even tell,” she said, patting her face with a smile.

A mohel, for those who don’t know, is a man who performs the Jewish practice of circumcision.

“It’s ridiculous, it doesn’t look like foreskin,” Wallace replied, laughing hysterically.

“No,” said Leno, “but when I get excited – well, never mind.”

The 73-year-old comedian has still got it.

Leno showed Wallace his new left ear, as the old one was almost completely burned away. Leno was admitted to the Grossman Burn Center in Los Angeles in November after a car caught fire in his garage. He spent nine days in the hospital, including significant time in a hyperbaric chamber.

Leno’s luck didn’t stop there. Just two months after the fire, he suffered a broken collarbone, two broken ribs and two torn knees in a motorcycle accident. Wallace would surely inquire about Leno’s potentially dangerous hobby.

“I’m going to ask a question I’m sure your wife Mavis has asked – are you putting it off?”

Leno replied: “No, she knows better than that.”

“He’s like, ‘You ain’t no help,'” Wallace joked.
