Kiran Karmarkar became a household name with one of Star Plus’ most renowned show Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii as Om Agarwal. The show was about the emotional journey of the wealthy Agarwal family. The show was known for its various plots and subplots featuring negative characters constantly plotting vicious moves. Kiran played the lead and male head of the Agarwal family while Sakshi Tanwar played the role of his on-screen wife Parvati. Their characters remain one of the most iconic on Indian television. In an exclusive interview with Bollywood HungamaKiran Karmarkar spoke about his reaction to the recurrence.
EXCLUSIVE: Kiran Karmarkar aka Om Agarwal Responds to the Return of Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii; says: “It would be interesting to see the reaction of the new generation”
About his initial reaction when he heard that Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii was getting a rerun, he said: “I was kinda surprised at first. I mean, it was such a big show. But I think it’s going to be fun. I actually loved the idea.” He’s even claimed that he’d love to watch the show this time around and he’s pretty excited to see himself from 20 years ago.
“I want to make sure I get the time. It started about 20 years ago, actually in the year 2000. So it will make for a really interesting watch,” he said. He adds that he is self-critical and hopes he isn’t too hard on himself when he watches the replay. “Although I do wonder how I will react to myself and my role many years ago. I’m excited, but at the same time I’m kind of self-critical. Looking back, even if two years earlier, I continue to criticize my scenes, my looks etc! So I’m constantly thinking what do I look like, what am I doing in that scene, how did I do that scene!”
The good news for fans of the Ekta Kapoor show is that the show will also premiere on Disney+ Hotstar, where the younger generation will also be able to see it. Kiran is just as excited to have his show on OTT as he is quite intrigued by how the younger audience will react to this 2000s show.
He said: “The OTT audience will be quite new. They would have heard about her show from the previous generations. So maybe out of sheer curiosity, they might switch to the platform to watch our show. It would be interesting to see their reaction. Today’s world is quite fast, but our shows back then were quite slow, so I’m quite curious what their reactions would be like.”
With the show getting a rerun, we wondered if we’d see the all-star cast reunite too. It will truly be a moment to remember for the 90s kids who grew up watching these shows. However, according to Kiran, it seems difficult as they are all very busy actors juggling between shows and everything in between.
Commenting on the concept of a reunion, he added, “I’d love to be part of a reunion if it ever happened, but it’s been 10 to 13 years since the show ended. At the moment everyone is busy in their own world, their own work and responsibilities. So it’s clear that given all that, a reunion might seem difficult right now.”
