Taylor Swift drops “Back to December (Taylor’s Version)” in the season 2 trailer for “The Summer I Turned Pretty.”
Lola Tung’s voice says, “Last summer felt like a dream.” over shots Isabelle “Bailey” Conklin (Tung) and Conrad Fischer (Chris Briny) on the beach, and then their conversation with Jeremiah Fischer (Gavin Casalegno). “It was different than any other summer.”
Season 1 of the Prime Video series based on Jenny Han’s best-selling book trilogy sees Bailey visiting Cousins Beach once again, but she’s brightened up in her time away. Both Fischer brothers take note and a love triangle begins between the three of them. Things get even more complicated when the boys learn that their mother, Susanna’s cancer has recurred. After a chaotic and dramatic debutante ball, she promises her sons that she will conduct a trial for a cure.
“I want to remember all this. You never know when you’ll see a place, a person for the last time,” Tung continued, transposing Taylor Swift’s “August” into “Back to December (Taylor’s Version)”. “I knew eventually I would lose Susanna. I didn’t know I’d lose them all.”
From the clip it looks like Bailey has had a rift with the two brothers, but she gets her chance to make things right when Conrad goes missing and she calls Jeremiah that same day.
“I thought when we lost Susanna, we lost the Cousins magic forever,” Tung says at the end of the trailer. “But maybe there’s still some way I can get it back.”
However, solving the love triangle may prove to be a bit more challenging.
Bailey tells Jeremiah on the beach, “There’s nothing left between me and Conrad.”
“There will always be something between you and Conrad,” he replied.
The first three episodes of “The Summer I Turned Pretty” launch July 14 on Amazon Prime Video.
