‘The Witcher’ cast says they were brought to ‘tears’ over Henry Cavill’s exit

All eyes on Henry Cavill’s final season “Magician” Premieres Thursday on Netflix.

“There is definitely a poignancy to it, yeah,” his “Witcher” co-star Joy Bate told TheWrap ahead of the Season 3 premiere. Anya Chalotra said she is “definitely going to feel that loss.”

The new season is divided into two parts, with the second segment airing in late July. Speaking with TheWrap, the cast recalled a lot of the sadness associated with filming scenes for Volume 2 knowing they were Cavill’s last scenes as Geralt.

“The character of Geralt – I’m not saying much – is in a very compromising position. Looking back, the emotional depth that Henry brought to that performance, especially in those last few weeks of filming, is incredibly touching,” said Batty, who plays Jaskier the Bard. “Actually I had a little trouble seeing it.”

“So did I,” Freya Allen continued. “There’s a certain scene at the end, and he says something related to Siri. I was gone. I was just in tears.

In October 2022, Cavill announced that he would be leaving the Netflix fantasy series and would be replaced by “The Hunger Games” star Liam Hemsworth in season 4. It’s still not entirely clear why Cavill left the project, but this marks a major turning point for the Netflix original.

“I will miss him dearly. Chalotra said, “Of course I will feel that loss, his five years as Geralt is huge.” credits her for backing it up with “her experience and knowledge and incredible talent”.

Currently, cast members said they have not yet met with showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich or the series’ executive producers about what Hemsworth’s transformation as Geralt would look like. Batty said, “Once Season 3 is out into the world, I’m sure creative conversations will begin.” “But I think it’s safe to say that we’re all really excited to see what Liam is going to come up with.”

Based on the novels of the same name by Andrzej Sapkowski, “The Witcher” first premiered on Netflix in 2019. Since then, it has become a tentpole franchise for the streamer, consisting of three seasons, a prequel animated film, and a live-action prequel. A second animated film and a family-friendly animated project are expected in the future.
