What is it about?

Bawaal is a story of a man named Ajay from Lucknow. He is an image conscious man who always wants to portray himself as something he is not. Ajay, played by Varun Dhawan, is a history teacher in a school. He has no interest in the subject, but he wants to keep the job. He marries a girl named Nisha Dixit played by Janhvi Kapoor. She is perfect in every way. From her looks to her family background, everything is in sync with Ajay’s macho image. However, she is a ‘defective piece’ as described by Ajay. Why he considers her flawed, you will know if you watch the movie. We don’t give spoilers! Their love story gains momentum on the day they get married and then Ajay’s professional life is also thrown into turmoil when he punches an MLA’s son. He devises a plan so that his image is not destroyed. The plan is to travel to Europe and share videos with students from World War II historic sites. Nisha accompanies him and then their real journey as lovers begins. Also Read – Bawaal: Netizens school Varun Dhawan as he bites Janhvi Kapoor’s ear during promotions

What’s hot?

Varun Dhawan has proven time and time again that he can play a boy next door with utmost perfection. Varun Dhawan slips into Ajay’s character well. After Govinda, it’s safe to say that Varun Dhawan is the one who got his comedic timing right. And his energy adds fun to the movie. Nitesh Tiwari has managed to get the feel of a romantic drama right. From dialect to accent, Bawaal’s characters get the gist right. The songs of the film perfectly contribute to the emotions of the characters. From Dilon Ki Yeh Dooriyan to Tumhe Kitna Pyaar Karte Hain, the songs are the best part of the movie. The supporting cast played by Manoj Pawah and others is apt. Though Bawaal’s story seems a bit far-fetched and unconvincing, the makers have made a sincere effort to make a good movie with all the elements of a Bollywood masala entertainer. It has songs, romance, drama and even a strong message to share with everyone. The first half of the movie is filled with entertainment and will make you chuckle on many occasions.

What not?

The story has Ajay and Nisha traveling across Europe to understand the history of World War II and also learn some life lessons. The plot sometimes seems to be more of a history lesson than a romantic drama. Though Brownie credits creators for honestly depicting the horrific incidents of World War II. Janhvi Kapoor tries her hardest to be a simple girl, but given her glamorous personality, she sometimes seems unsuited to play the girl next door. Although the title of the movie is Bawaal, you would expect the movie to contain some Dhoom dhadaka, but that is not the case. The film has its heart in the right place but lacks connection.

BL verdict

Bawaal is a one-off film, but don’t have high expectations. It also has a good message to share with everyone.

Judgement : 2.5 out 5
