The British chameleon has been taken on an array of roles across film and television for over 25 years, assembling a resume only the most established actors can dream of. Her extraordinary range of performances in various genres, periods, and settings has made her one of her generation’s most compelling and versatile actors.

To celebrate her birthday, Variety ranks Colman’s 10 best film performances of her career so far.

Colman’s naturalistic approach to her work has brought her an avalanche of accolades. Her first Oscars invitation came with a remarkable turn as Queen Anne in Yorgos Lanthimos’ “The Favourite” (2018), which earned her a best actress statuette. Since then, two more have followed with Florian Zeller’s “The Father” (2020) and Maggie Gyllenhaal’s “The Lost Daughter” (2021).

In addition, she’s also picked up three BAFTA Awards, two of which are for efforts on television, including “Accused” in 2013 and her unforgettable performance as a detective and mother in “Broadchurch” in 2014. She also holds two Emmys for lead drama actress for playing Queen Elizabeth in “The Crown” and guest performance at the Children & Family Emmys for “Heartstopper.”

Next on the docket for the Oscar-winner is playing The Reverend Mother in the next installment of the Paddington franchise titled “Paddington in Peru.”
