Bollywood has a rich history when it comes to portraying psychopaths on screen, with several classics such as Darr, Deewangee, and Kaun immediately coming to mind. However, when it comes to the fairly new way of web series, the rich are yet to be explored. Well, the door to the OTT universe of said realms has now been opened in a grand way by series creator Goldie Behl, who is creating a dark and intriguing world with his Drashti Dhami and Gulshan Devaiah starrer, Duranga, on ZEE5. So, are you excited about what to watch this weekend or this week and wondering if Bullet Train is worth your time? What is it about

Ira (Drashti Dhami), a top cop from Mumbai’s crime branch, has built a happily married life with Samit Patel (Gulshan Devaiah), including sharing a child, oblivious to his psychopathic tendencies and dark past about the past 11 years. his serial killer father. When murders in the same MO of deceased father start to happen again, do you wonder if Samit’s urge has resurfaced or is there another killer adopting the same style on the hunt?

what’s hot

Let me get one thing out of the way right away: Duranga is Gulshan Devaiah and Gulshan Devaiah is Duranga, who perfectly adds the body language, mannerisms, lack of empathy and inability to emote a psychopath yet adds dollops of human subtexts to his character. He is brilliantly supported by Drashti Dhami as the unsuspecting woman whose world collapses when she learns his history while also trying to get to the bottom of a very demanding case. The rest of the cast is also on the money as Goldie Behl delivers his best creative work in years and the icing on the cake is Amit Sadh’s late entry.

Although I haven’t seen Flower of Evil, the K-drama this Zee5 series is based on, I can say that it’s an amazingly good industrialized adaptation that draws you in with suspense, suspense, layers of human drama that slowly unfold. be peeled off and no small amount of pathos. The production value and camera work are also pretty good, as is the editing, keeping things snappy with 9 episodes of about half an hour each. A word from the action choreography too, with two chase sequences that stand out.

What not

As far as Goldie Behl is concerned as a creative influence, he still has a few miles to travel when it comes to avoiding the same glaring flaws that previously plagued his work, such as plot holes, logical inconsistencies, and scenes that end abruptly. Fortunately, they are very rare in Duranga, but they are still prominent enough not to be overlooked. A few narrative decisions also beg you to suspend disbelief, but you gladly do so because you’re having such a good time.

BL verdict

A few plot holes and logical inconsistencies aside, Duranga on Zee5 is easily the first addictive, binge-worthy and extraordinarily well-executed Indian web series about psychopaths and serial killers, capturing all their dark and devious quirks with copious layers and edge-of-the-chair tension. I’m going with 4 out of 5 stars.
