Bollywood actress Huma Qureshi, who rose to fame after cult hit debut film Gangs of Wasseypur, recently completed her 10 years in the film industry. The actress sat with Bollywood Hungama for an exclusive interview and talked about her journey, her experience of 10 years in Bollywood.
EXCLUSIVE: Huma Qureshi On Completing 10 Years In Bollywood – “It Was About Self-Discovery And Learning To Say No”
Huma said she feels like her 10 years in this industry flew by in just seconds. “I don’t know when the time flew by, but it certainly made me wiser. It helped me grow up and it helped me make some good decisions, maybe some bad ones, but all in all I don’t think I regret it,” she said.
When asked if she was more impulsive about signing films during her debut years, she said, “No, I guess I was just a kid and made mistakes, rookie mistakes. I had no one to help me or hold me tight.” or to navigate the process for me. I also have parents from non-film backgrounds, so when I discuss something with them too, they’ll say, ‘Everything will be fine, just work hard.’ And I think I need specific advice now.”
“I mean, I really enjoy it. I think I like forging my own path and it wasn’t an easy ride. But I think it’s been full of lessons and full of self-discoveries. So I don’t look back at myself and be like ‘Shit or whatever’. I just feel like looking back at me, ‘I was a kid and I made stupid mistakes and that’s okay. I’m still here, I’m still working and I’m going to learn from those mistakes and do something fun in the future,” she added.
Huma shared how she’s grown in the industry in recent years and how it’s been a matter of self-discovery, Huma added: “So I thought ‘No, I need to do something more.’ So I think the last few years have been really interesting for me because it’s been about self-discovery and learning to say no and learning to be okay this is what I want to do and this is who I am and I think more confident in myself as actor and that was a lot of fun. That gave me a lot of strength and I think that you can see that in my work now too.”
On the work front, Huma Qureshi recently saw the premiere of the sequel to her critically acclaimed political drama Maharani which debuted on August 25. The drama series was created by Subhash Kapoor and also stars Sohum Shah and Vineet Kumar in pivotal roles. She also has Double XL, Monica O my darling, Tarla, and Pooja Meri Jaan next in its pipeline.
