Since its inception, Mani Ratnam’s upcoming magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan: Ikalso called PS-1, creates a buzz. Recently, the creators hosted a trailer launch event on September 6. Among many others, the famous actor Kamal Haasan also attended the trailer launch event. Interestingly, in his piece of the camera, the veteran actor shared some lesser-known information regarding the upcoming project.
PS-1 Trailer Launch: Kamal Haasan Reveals Mani Ratnam Offered Him And Rajinikanth THESE Roles In 1989 For Upcoming Magnum Opus Movie
For the inexperienced, PS-1, which was created 30 years ago, was planned by Mani Ratnam to be made in 1989 with Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth. Interestingly, Hasaan was offered the roles offered to him and Rajinikanth. Kamal said, ‘Sivaji, sir, told me to cast Rajini as Vanthiyathevan. I told him I wanted to play it, but he insisted I play ArunmozhiVarman instead”.
On the other hand, the Vikram actor also spoke about his long friendship with Rajinikanth. He claimed: “The cinema is a small family and there is no space and time for people to get jealous. Rajini and I have known for a long time and that is why we are still before you”.
Meanwhile, actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who will play a central character in the film, said: “Rajini and Kamal sir – (it’s a) dream moment to have you both here. We have been students, admirers of yours and will continue to do so forever ”, at the event.
Speaking of the film, Mani Ratnam’s upcoming directing is slated for a worldwide release on September 30, 2022, in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam. The ensemble star cast of the film includes Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Trisha, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, Prabhu, R. Sarathkumar, Vikram Prabhu and Jayaram.
Written by Kalki Krishnamurthy, the story of Ponniyin Selvan is based on a fiction novel of the same name. The book revolves around the life of Rajaraja Chola I of the Chola dynasty.
