With Captain you are back on the big screen after a long time, right? How does it feel?

I am very excited about Captain. Thanks to director Shakti Soundar Raja. We worked on the film for over a year and worked hard I must say. Both my recent two films have given me a lot of love and encouragement from the audience and the fans. But yes, the experience of watching the movie in a theater is ultimate and nothing can beat that. So looking forward to the release tomorrow. This movie has a huge creature that looks more like an alien. Tamil cinema has not yet explored these kinds of concepts. Why did you say yes to it? Were you not afraid?

WHERE. Without Shakti I would not have made this film. He is a perfectionist. When you watch Rajamouli sir’s movies, you can’t find any flaws in them. Similarly, Shakti does, directs and shows what he says and promises. He literally makes what he tells us. He was very confident and sure even about every little thing about how it should be represented in pictures. I would have said no if another director had come to me with this script. What are you actually looking for in a script? What do you care?

The characterization itself fascinates me. I should be able to see myself in the script. The story has to captivate me. Usually I don’t like roles that look repetitive. I want to try something new every time and that’s why most of the movies are different from the routine.

You started your career in 2005 and now almost 20 years. Who is your inspiration?

Life has been great. I’ve been making great movies all this time. I even played villain in the Varudu movie with Allu Arjun. The career chart definitely has ups and downs that I learned a lot from. And I am inspired by everyone. There is not one person in particular. Actors and directors I’ve worked with have taught me different things from each person.

How much has Sarpatta Parambari changed your life?

Oh my God! It changed the whole scenario I must say. This film has not only helped me to grow in Tamil cinema, but also in other sectors. As it was the lockdown period, people watched the film from different angles and the response was incredible. The kind of scripts I started to receive after Sarpatta is at odds with what I got before. Pa Ranjit and I were so confident that the movie was going to be a hit. We decided to work hard and strong and focus on making it and we stuck to it. The result… everyone knows.
