The Beauty and the Beast prequel series is still in the works, according to Luke Evans. The actor played Gaston in the 2017 hit, which took in $1.27 billion at the box office and received two Oscar nominations. As for Disney’s live-action remakes, Beauty and the Beast is considered one of the best releases to date, with great reviews from critics and fans alike. Of course, with a payday of over a billion dollars, Disney definitely had to capitalize on the success. However, the series, which was given the green light in 2021, was postponed indefinitely in February after conflicting reports about creative differences, scheduling issues, budget issues and the desire to film in the summer for better weather conditions.
Now Evans assures fans that despite the long delay, the project is still in development. During an interview with Weekly entertainmentthe actor sat down to discuss the prequel’s progress, saying, “we want to honor these characters with the best story we can possibly deliver.”
“It’s been put on hold. We just want to make sure it’s the absolute best it can be, and if that means we just have to wait a little longer to refine certain bits of it, that’s what we’re going to do.” because this is a very important legacy. Josh Gad and Luke Evans are excited to discover their characters
In the 2017 film, Evans is Gaston, the boastful admirer of Emma Watson’s Belle, and Josh Dag plays LeFou, his sidekick. Their relationship and origin will be further explored in the Beauty and the Beast prequel series, which excites the duo. Gad and Evans serve as executive producers for the spin-off. At the same time, Gad chose to take on showrunner responsibilities with Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz, known for creating There was once. Evans tells EW that they got the idea for the prequel when the pair started brainstorming ideas where they could work together.
“We came up with the idea of what it would be like to delve into Gaston and LeFou’s past and how they met and who they were and why they became the people we meet in the movie we all know and love? That opened up different cans of worms it was an exciting experience navigating through a story of those two people and also new characters and bringing them to the point where you meet them in the movie there are many ways it can go so that’s where we’ve been so far and where hopefully we’ll go in the future.”
Fans of Beauty and the Beast should be reassured, given that Evans has so far been confident in the prequel series and wholeheartedly believes it will make an appearance on Disney+ someday. But for now, the public will have to wait for concrete confirmation from the streaming service. However, this good news should make fans of the film very happy.
