Madeleine Arthur Talks Devil in Ohio and Upcoming Netflix Series Blockbuster

Madeleine Arthur is an actress you may recognize from her work with Netflix. She recently played Mae Dodd in Devil in Ohio, currently the number one show on the streaming service. She played Chris Donati in the To all the boys I’ve loved before trilogy and will appear as Hannah in the upcoming comedy series box office success. Arthur has also had a very good year so far.

“I think I’ve been able to film some really cool things, and I’ve been able to travel! I spent two months abroad – I was in France and London. I have so many family in London, and I love it. I just think it’s a fantastic city. It’s just the energy! My travels consisted of eating all kinds of good things, seeing some sights, brushing up on my French and having some long-awaited catch up with family and friends. All in all it was very special,” said Arthur.

Before focusing on acting, Arthur was a competitive gymnast. While she doesn’t necessarily miss the training aspect because of how intense it can be at times, she does lack the ability to do certain skills and strengths. She would like to do some gymnastics again, but something like silk or acrobatics instead of jump bars, beam, floor, etc. In the meantime, she has plenty of other things to fill her free time.

“I like the outdoors, so I would go for a walk or a hike. I love cooking. I like art and art history. So, something with one of those things! But I also like watching movies, reading and always like to try something new. Actually, I don’t like to sit at home for long, so I just try to discover and try new things. I am always up for an adventure.”

When asked by Beautiful! about who, of all the roles she has played so far, is her favorite character to play and why. Arthur said she couldn’t choose. She loves them all because she feels they are all special experiences. Arthur loves to dabble in different worlds and be able to go through different kinds of stories. They all hold a special place in her heart for different reasons.

Some of Arthur’s characters so far

mae van Devil in Ohio is a cult survivor, a totally different background from the person who plays her. Arthur said it was challenging to play her, but playing such a dynamic and complex character was something she loved. But because everything about Mae was different, Arthur did a lot of research to prepare.

“I watched movies related to cults, read articles and just did everything I could to take bits of other things to make sure I portrayed her as a full person. She escapes trauma – she has went through a really traumatic experience. Overall, it was definitely a unique experience to live in that dark space of emotions for a long time.”

Chris is the best friend of Lara Jean (Lana Condor), who, unlike her boyfriend, is very carefree and wild. Arthur said Chris is a good reminder to be yourself, to be who you are and to go through life with confidence. According to her, Chris is very different from who she is in real life, but they are similar in how they both go for it.

“In terms of what’s my favorite thing about Chris? I loved bringing her witty lines, and I loved her sense of humor. I also loved working with the entire cast – Lana specifically – and just everyone, because when you make three films together, you become a small family. I miss that we don’t do it anymore!”

Arthur described Hannah from: box office success as full of joy, cheerful, optimistic and loving to her Blockbuster family. According to Arthur, there were so many comedic geniuses on that set, so it was great to learn from them and play with hilarious lines. Plus, walking the aisles of Blockbuster was like amnesia because Arthur grew up going to Blockbuster multiple times a week, so got Blockbuster multiple times a week.

“I feel like it has influenced my love for film and filmmaking and inspired me to become an actor by renting movies there every week. So getting to work with everyone was honestly like pure and utter joy – so much laughed on the set I also enjoyed learning from all these great actors who have already made so many excellent comedies.
