Jacob Elordi plays Elvis in Priscilla Presley Biopic, Cailee Spaeny plays Priscilla

Priscilla Presley’s upcoming biopic Priscilla of A24 has found its guiding stars. Variety reports that the upcoming film, which is written and directed by Sofia Coppola (Lost in translation, On the rocks), will feature Cailee Spaeny (Mare by Easttown, Bad times in El Royale) as Priscilla with Jacob Elordic (Euphoria, Saltburn) as Elvis. The announcement comes shortly after the successful success of the Baz Luhrmann film Elvis which starred Austin Butler as the titular singer with Olivia DeJonge as Priscilla.

Elordi responded to the casting with a message on Instagram. The actor shared an image of Elvis in his military uniform in the middle of a snow storm with a big smile on his face. In the caption, Elordi simply wrote “E,” though he also shared a screenshot of the news story about his casting on his Instagram Stories.

Coppola is producing the feature film together with Youree Henley, Lorenzo Mieli of The Apartment, a Fremantle Company and American Zoetrope. This also makes the third film to come out of Coppola’s collaboration with A24 that follows On the rocks and The bling ring. She also recalls many of her regular employees for: Priscillasuch as cinematographer Philippe Le Sourd, costume designer Stacey Battat, editor Sarah Flack and production designer Tamara Deverell.

Priscilla is based on Priscilla Presley’s 1985 memoir Elvis and me, which describes the relationship between the late singer and his only wife. The book explores how the two met, along with the trials and tribulations of their marriage and subsequent divorce. In 1988, the book was developed as a TV movie by director Larry Peerce and writer Joyce Eliason. That version featured Dale Midkiff (Pet Sematary) as Elvis and Susan Walters (The flash) as Priscilla.

Elvis returned to the spotlight in new biopic

The Presleys have been getting a lot of attention lately following the recent success of Baz Luhrmann’s biopic Elvis. In the film, Austin Butler plays the role of the King of Rock ‘n Roll, and the actor’s performance was so impressive that it generated Oscar buzz. Needless to say, Elordi will do his best to provide his own unique take on Elvis so soon after such a critically acclaimed performance from Butler.

Elvis is now streaming on HBO Max. Priscilla doesn’t have a release date yet, but will reportedly be filming in Toronto in the fall.
