Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi just released its first trailer at D23 2022. Dave Filoni doesn’t intend to disappoint as he gives us a first look at the history of Ahsoka Tano and Count Dooku. As the clips unfold, we see Ahsoka being trained by Anakin, Count Dooku becoming more violent, and Yoda in another lightsaber fight. Since this is just the trailer, Stories of the Jedi promises to be an incredible addition to the Star Wars canon.
The series was announced in May on the Star Wars Celebration, and fans were excited to see another project from Dave Filoni, creator of Bad batch and Star Wars: Rebels. although Stories of the Jedi is just a six 15 minute anthology series, looks like it will tell a big story. Ahsoka Tano and Count Dooku are two Jedi (or former Jedi) with morally dubious backgrounds, and however they turned out, they were both exposed to unique aspects of the dark side.
Here’s our breakdown of the official Stories of the Jedi trailer.
Dig Dooku’s Path to the Dark Side
We all know Count Dooku from The Clone Wars series and Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones. And while he looked like a Sith, he wasn’t always. In Stories of the Jediwe’ll take a look at a younger Dooku before turning to the dark side.
The first shot of him in the trailer has him standing in the middle of a funeral procession before standing reverently in front of a large tree that is losing its leaves. We hear him addressed as ‘Master Dooku’ for the first time. And while he was a Jedi master, his Padawan was Qui-Gon Jinn. On the show, Liam Neeson will return as Qui-Gon as Padawan.
Dooku says, “I want to bring peace and order to the galaxy.” But in the following scenes he becomes more and more violent. When he stands in front of a group of farmers with a young Qui-Gon, it seems as if he is protecting them from a group of soldiers. But as he fires his lightsaber, Qui-Gon shouts, “Master! Stop!” and Dooku tosses him aside with the Force.
Next, Dooku is in battle alongside Mace Windu, facing a new (or old) type of droid we haven’t seen before, along with several soldiers. Dooku Force throws several soldiers into the side of their ship, and only Windu manages to stop his rage as he brings his lightsaber to the throat of a frightened enemy.
There are quick shots of some well-known characters, including Bail Organa and Captain Rex. Dooku then gathers with a small group of Jedi while overlooking something that looks like a chest and says:
“I warned them of the coming darkness.”
Ahsoka Tano’s Journey as a Young Child
Ahsoka, everyone’s favorite Padawan, has a journey that begins much earlier in her life. As the trailer opens, we hear her mom, Pav-Ti (Janina Gavankar), say:
“There is life everywhere… but you have to face death. Honor it. Don’t be afraid of it.”
The first shot we see of Ahsoka is as a young child. As a saber-toothed predator lands on her, licks its lips, about to take a bite, Ahsoka smiles and kindly places her hand on his nose. In the next scene, while her mother is holding baby Ahsoka, a village elder looks over her and says, “Jedi. Ahsoka is Jedi.”
Immediately, we see teenage Ahsoka lighting her lightsaber, surrounded by clone troopers in a training drill. Anakin’s voice comes in and says, “The best way I can protect you is to teach you how to protect yourself.” The clone troopers focus on fighting her every time they hear Anakin’s voice say, “Again.” The clone troopers fire ion beams with their guns as Ahsoka twirls and spins artfully with her twin lightsabers. She deflects several shots before being stunned, hitting the ground and dropping her lightsaber. Anakin again demands, “Again.”
We see Ahsoka riding the predator of old, hiding in a crowd under her familiar hood, and walking down a long hallway in her Jedi garb. We hear her voice: “I’m tired of fighting.” Captain Rex surprisingly pulls out his blasters and fires a shot at Ahsoka.
In the final sequence in the trailer, a powerful enemy confronts Ahsoka. As uncontrolled wildfires blaze behind him, he carries an Inquisitor’s double red lightsaber. He has a hood and a cloak and wears as a mask what resembles the skull of a vulture. With his lightsaber at someone else’s throat, he asks Ahsoka, “And who could you be?” Ahsoka simply stares at him, determined that she will have to fight.
Stories of the Jedi will be released on October 26, 2022, only on Disney+
