‘Monday Night Football’ Opener Breaks ESPN Viewing Records for NFL & Disney – Deadline

Against former teammate Russell Wilson and his new Denver Broncos crew last night, the Seattle Seahawks were desperate for a home win.

Up with a 17-16 result they have one — and so do ESPN, ABC, and the NFL.

In one for the books, the gridiron matchup was watched by 19.9 million viewers in prime time at Jet City last night.

To capture the size of this Monday audience, MNFViewership of was 236% higher than that of the 74th Primetime Emmy Awards at the same time on NBC. While the Emmys hit an all-time low, the broadcast game has proven to be the third most watched game by ESPN, ABC, ESPN2, ESPN+ and ESPN Deportes MNF since 2009. The Seahawks’ win over Denver and Wilson was also the fourth-most-watched NFL regular-season game ever on Disney-owned Sport Cabler.

For you sports trivia maniacs (raise my own hand here), the all-time record is currently held by the October 5, 2009 fight between the Minnesota Vikings and the Green Bay Packers in Wisconsin. In that game, the Vikings won 30-23 and 21.84 million turned on.

Looking back to 2022 MNF Kick-off was 16% higher than last year’s Las Vegas Raiders 33-27 overtime win over the Baltimore Ravens. Last night also saw the debut of Joe Buck and Troy Aikman, who commented on the MNF Broadcast Booth and Season 11 by Lisa Salters getting the information from the sidelines.

And here’s the deal, week 2 of MNF for the 2022-2023 season have a good chance of calling off the wig this week. Sports-heavy Disney doubles literally and figuratively the Tennessee Titans vs. the Buffalo Bills at 7:15 p.m. ET on ESPN and the Vikings vs. the Philadelphia Eagles at 8:30 p.m. ET on ABC.

Someone should now give an Emmy to whoever planned this.
