Stranger Things producer has definitive answer to Eddie fan return requests

Weird stuff fans still haven’t fully recovered from the loss of season four’s favorite character, Eddie Munson, to the point that they’re still filing a request for the character to be revived in the show’s final season. However, producer Shawn Levy has seemingly closed the door to fan theories about Eddie appearing in the climax of Weird stuff.

Weird stuff made a triumphant return this year with a super-big season four that exceeded fan expectations and rocked us like never before. While the season brought the usual mix of humor, monsters and dangerous situations for the characters, it also revealed the great evil of the series in the villainous Vecna, ending on an ominous tone for the inhabitants of Hawkins.

As part of the epic storyline, the season introduced the Hellfire Club, a Dungeons & Dragons group led by Joseph Quinn’s Eddie Munson. Over the course of the season, Eddie was falsely accused of causing the deaths of Vecna’s victims and was eventually forced to take a stand with Eleven, Mike and the rest of Hawkins’ youths to take down the opponent. However, fans were soon heartbroken when Eddie met his creator while rescuing Dustin from a swarm of demo bats. Now it looks like death is death for Eddie, as Shawn Levy explained: The Hollywood Reporter:

“[Laughs] Oh boy, a lot of people – a lot of people – can’t even handle the thought of a season 5 without an excuse for Eddie’s presence. Highly unlikely. Highly unlikely. But we hear you, world. We know. You’re obsessed with Eddie. We also.”

Stranger Things season 5 doesn’t last as long as its predecessor

There was a long wait between Weird stuff’ third and fourth season, which was due both to the challenges of the Covid pandemic and the fact that the season was twice as long as any other season. While the fifth season promises to be an epic conclusion to the Weird stuff story, series creators have already set the Duffer Brothers fans’ expectations for another mega-long season. Previously they explained:

“We thought season 4 was going to be eight” [episodes], and they would be a normal length. So if you had interviewed us for four hours, I would have said so. I think we’re aiming for eight again. We don’t want it to be 1 PM. We’re aiming for more than 10 hours or something. I think it will last longer than Season 1 because we still have so much to complete, but I don’t think it will be as long as Season 4.

Featuring the Duffer Brothers who have just started scripting season 5 of Weird stuff, it will probably be a few years before the show’s finale finally lands on Netflix, by which time we should be able to know where the series’ planned spin-off will go. For now the first four seasons of Weird stuff streaming on Netflix.
