Rumor suggests that Witcher seasons 4 and 5 may film back-to-back

Netflix’s The Witcher has only aired two seasons so far, with season 3 recently wrapping up footage, but new rumors say the streamer may have already given the green light for seasons 4 and 5, and they could be filming sequentially. While this would be a huge undertaking for both the cast, crew and finance department at Netflix, The Witcher is one of the IPs the streamer has gone all in lately, delving into animated films, prequels, and more.

The information about the rumors was shared by: Redan intelligenceand while they should be considered mere rumors at this point, it shouldn’t be surprising that Netflix has so much witcher content to keep fans of the franchise subscribed. With Netflix’s TUDUM event later this year, it’s expected The Witcher will greatly anticipate the new season and other spin-offs coming to the platform soon.

The new rumors have a solid foundation to work from, with series director Stephen Surjik teasing that season 4 was already scheduled for earlier this year. At the time, he said, “The writers and producers charted season 4…I don’t know if I’m part of that charting show, but at least they told me they’re charting it.”

There’s still a long way to go before we get to see a fourth season The Witcher goes into full production, and since Surjik mentions that only season 4 is planned, Netflix may decide to continue with a more conventional “one season at a time” movie schedule, especially given recent concerns about their frivolous releases.

The Witcher Season 3 Will Adapt Andrzej Sapkowski’s Novel, Time of Contempt

While Netflix has played a bit with some of The Witchers storylines, the series so far has followed Andrzej Sapkowski’s novels in a mostly linear fashion, making use of The last wish and sword of fate as the basis for the first season, and Blood of Elves as his second, with elements of the other two novels resolved in the season. Now it looks like Season 3 will continue the same trend by leaning on the remaining storylines from Blood of Elveswhile she’s from Time of contemptsomething that showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich previously confirmed. She said:

“I don’t feel like our story should go beyond where the books are going. I think Andrzej Sapkowski, the writer, had a natural goal in mind. Now actually, since we started the show, he’s released more books , so we’ll have to see how that fits in.”

Many fans will be checking out Netflix’s TUDUM event this year, taking place on September 24, for news on when The Witchers third season will premiere on the platform, as well as announcements about prequel series, The Witcher: Blood Origin. Meanwhile, the first two seasons of The Witcher and animation film Nightmare of the Wolf are now available on Netflix.
