Captain America 4 Director Hints at Production Start

Captain America: New World Order isn’t coming for another two years, but the team is “already pretty busy putting it all together.

Anthony Mackie is currently busy with the turned metal TV series, but Captain America: New World Order is probably next on his list. The film’s director has revealed that he and the team are already well into pre-production, meaning the film will likely begin filming early next year. Many details about Marvel Studio’s upcoming film were revealed at Disney’s D23 Expo this past weekend, and Mackie’s first run as Captain America was one of the reveals. Director Julius Onah recently talked about working on the next generation of the Avenger in an interview with Collider. He said:

“We’re already busy putting it all together. As you know with these movies, there’s so many elements, between the cast and the script and the effects and the stunts. It’s really exciting to get really deep into it. “

While it seemed a given that Anthony Mackie would get his own movie as Captain America, the reveal wasn’t made until April 2021, and the title and location of the movie in the upcoming Marvel series were announced at San Diego Comic-Con 2022. Last weekend it was announced that Tim Blake Nelson will reprise his role as Samuel Sterns/The Leader, last seen in 2008’s The Incredible Hulk. Much like Tim Roth’s reintroduction as Emil Blonsky/Abomination, Nelson’s return is another connection in the MCU to the early Marvel film.

Anthony Mackie’s Captain America Journey Becomes ‘An Incredible Ride’

Following the events of Avengers: EndgameSam Wilson was always going to be the MCU’s new Captain America, but Sam had to take a personal journey in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier to realize that Steve Rogers was right when he handed the shield to him and that he was America’s next hero.

utilities, Captain America: New World Order will see Mackie take the helm for the first time in the guise of Captain America, and director Onah previously commented on the challenges the character will face in his first big-screen adventure. He said:

“It’s going to be a very, very incredible ride. It’s a paranoid thriller with Sam [Wilson] central, and he is now in this position where he is a leader and he has to deal with that challenge of what it means to lead a group of people that he really cares about. For Sam, he used to be part of a team, but now being at the head of a team is a new set of challenges, so his journey in this movie is really about that.”

Been part of the MCU from the start and first appeared in Captain America: The First Avenger, it was fitting for Sam’s character to take on the mantle of his long-time friend. While some thought it should be the Winter Soldier, Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes, who should have inherited the Captain America tag, there are many reasons why it shouldn’t, including his involvement in the Lightning strikes lineup with the likes of Red Guardian, Ghost and US Agent.

We’ll see Sam take on his Captain America responsibilities in Captain America: New World Order when the film is released on May 3, 2024.
