Whoopi Goldberg Rips Ron DeSantis

Whoopi Goldberg didn’t put any kind words to Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis Thursday morning after it was revealed he used taxpayer money to send two planes full of migrants to Martha’s Vineyard. According to the host of “The View,” it was a “bad” move by “Bonehead”—and a hypocrite at that.

The situation led to a Hot Topics discussion on Thursday’s show, with Whoopi presenting her thoughts before opening the question to the table. To begin, he cited the Statue of Liberty.

“Call me crazy, but I remember the big tall green lady, you know, who ended up on the river, and she said, ‘I love your weary, your poor, your flock yearning to be free Send it,” Whoopi texted. “‘Send the wretched garbage of your tormented shore, send them homeless, storm, throw it to me.’ I thought that was part of what we did here in the United States. We welcomed people, invited people who were being bullied in the countries where they lived, in the countries where they were being abused. They lived. I thought we had asked people to come here.”

Whoopi then used a very specific example – DeSantis’ own great-grandmother. According to the host, a relative of DeSantis had arrived in Ellis Island from Italy in 1917.

“She couldn’t read or write, but no one allowed her to come,” said Whoopi. “She comes, and we still took her in.”

Goldberg acknowledged that she understood DeSantis was trying to “make a point” by sending these migrants to sanctuary cities, but added that making a point doesn’t bring some humanity.

“These are the people you’re playing with. These are real-life people, kids and grown-ups,” she said. “And you know, we can solve this. But if you’re going to be a bone, who wants to play with you? You know, call me crazy, but I don’t understand why you feel bad about it. ,

DeSantis’s move follows similar ones by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey and Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker. Abbott was first in April, and has sent immigrants to Democrat-run cities including Washington, D.C., New York City and Chicago. two buses of migrants abandoned on thursday At the DC home of Vice President Kamala Harris by way of Texas and Abbott.
