In the first “Law & Order”, the season opener will be a three-series crossover event, starring Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni) of “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” with characters from the Mothership series. Will be ) “Law and Order: Organized Crime.”
“Law & Order” showrunner Rick Eid, who co-wrote the three-hour premiere episode, told TheWrap that characters from all three series would be working together on the same case, which centers around the murder of a young girl. -Focused around. An international crime ring.
“We’re excited about it. Quite a big event. It’s really like a three-hour film where all the characters from all the different shows are integrated, I hope, into one big story. They’re as appropriate. Pop in and out and it’ll feel like a three-hour movie starring the stars of your favorite “Law & Order” show,” he said.
Season 22 also sees the introduction of Junior Detective Jalen Shaw (Mehchad Brooks), who is paired with Senior Detective Frank Cosgrove (Jeffrey Donovan) after Anthony Anderson’s exit from Kevin Bernard.
I’d also talked about what hot topic is already “burst from the headlines” on the doc and how DA Jack McCoy (Sam Waterston) has changed — and hasn’t — in 18 seasons.
wrap: What can you tell me about Mehcad Brooks’ character and how he and Donovan will work together?
Rick Eid: He is a former lawyer, has worked as a narcotics detective and is quite new to murder when he joins up with Donovan. We’re trying not to get the “butting-heads partner” trope, but at the same time, some conflict is like the whole point of the drama. They have different approaches to the way they work. They are of different ages, they come from different places. So there’s definitely a lot in store for him this season. I think it’s an interesting dynamic. In crossovers, they get to know each other very quickly when they first meet.
Are we getting another new character?
Connie Shia [of ‘Unbreakable Kimmie Schmidt’ and ‘Everything’s Trash’] This year is new for us. She is a spy and will be in the squad room.
Can we expect more bursting news from the headlines?
Yes, we will certainly continue to find out what is happening in the world in the traditional ‘law and order’ way. We start with a title or something that is being discussed, but they have always evolved into something different. We take inspiration from what is happening in the world and then make it our own. One of the earliest episodes explores the recent Supreme Court decision overturning Roe v. Wade. We don’t really get into arguments whether it’s good or bad or right or wrong. There is an interesting wrinkle to the law and it comes down to the idea of people coming to New York for abortion.
In the past, Jack McCoy was considered liberal by some of his opponents in matters such as when he sued a gun manufacturer after a mass shooting. And he was a Vietnam War defender. Would you say that as he got older, he became more conservative? Where is he standing now?
I don’t know if I would portray McCoy as a liberal. Traditionally, I think he was in the middle of the road and wasn’t afraid to make tough decisions. Almost a bit more conservative leanings, frankly. So I guess he’s probably been about the same. He is trying to balance his beliefs with the law and changing customs of the society. It’s a tough balancing act, I guess, in the real world as a DA right now. Ask All DAs in New York and LA
I feel [the question is], ‘What is liberal nowadays?’ I think at one point in time, Jack McCoy was liberal and if you apply as a prosecutor what we considered liberal 20 years ago, it’s not the same thing as what we consider liberal today.
McCoy has been doing this for a long time. How has he changed?
I think it is a challenging role. McCoy turns out to be a wonderful homicide prosecutor and he has some beliefs based on them all. He likes to receive the bad guys. I think he’s evolving, which is interesting, he’s been doing it for a long time and he’s still open to thinking differently. It’s such an interesting time to be a prosecutor and district attorney.
What’s Happening This Season for Ada Nolan Price (Hugh Dancy, and Samantha Maroun (Odelya Hlevic) ,,
They will continue to try to thread that needle between doing the right thing for the victims, doing the right thing for the defendants, and obeying the law. It is that kind of breach of justice and what is right. It’s an imperfect process and trying to find the best results for everyone involved is challenging. So I think it will continue to evolve.
and for the character of Camry Mannheim, Lieutenant Kate Dixon?
I don’t know when it will air, but in one of the early episodes we see Cameron’s character signing someone fluent and we learn that her son is deaf. In real life, Cameron is well versed in sign language and is involved in the deaf community, so it’s really important for her that we integrate her. I think it’s a really cool aspect of his character in the show and obviously in real life.
Will We See the Return of Any Other Old ‘Law & Order’ Stars?
We don’t have a schedule right now, but I’m sure you’ll see some Law & Order alumni.
