Kate Winslet Says Lee Isn’t A Biopic

Winslet teased that Lee is much more than a typical Hollywood biopic. She has emphasized how important Miller’s story is, to the point of being shocked that it hasn’t been made into a movie in the past.

“This is definitely not a biopic,” Winslet told Fashion about the movie. “What we wanted to do was find the most interesting decade in her life. It was the period from 1938 to 1948 that took her through the war. It amazes me that no movie has ever been made about this incredible woman. She has been misunderstood and so many times viewed through the lens of a man. What she did, as a female photographer at the front during World War II, [was educate] people about what really happened during the war. Lee was the woman who documented the war for women, through women’s eyes, for a women’s magazine.”

An accomplished and prolific actress, Winslet is an award-winning recording artist whose credits include an Oscar-winning role in The reader. Of course she is also very well known for her role in the film Titanic which set the new record for the highest-grossing film released at the time. More recently, Winslet appeared in an acclaimed role in Mare by Easttown, earning an Emmy for her efforts with that show. She will also appear in the upcoming sequel Avatar: The way of the waterwhich will hit theaters on December 16, 2022.
