Endor Season 2 Probably Won’t Debut Until 2024

“Endor,” the new “Star Wars” series that serves as a prequel to 2016’s “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” (which itself was a prequel to 1977’s “Star Wars: A New Hope”), is released this week Debuts on Disney+. With a three-episode premiere that completely sets you up for the new series. But if you really love “Endor” (and you’re really going to love “Endor”), the wait for Season 2 will probably be longer than you expected.

Speaking to TheWrap about the new show, we reported that previously Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy suggested leaning on Gilroy, potentially as an ambassador for a suite of “Star Wars” movies after “Endor.” was. Gilroy said he had not spoken to Kennedy about taking on a major cinematic project and that “Endor” suggests a deviation in the way things are accustomed to.

“This is by far the most house I have ever built. I have always had a very nimble approach to it,” Gilroy said. “I would never put a job in front of another job. I’ve always done one thing at a time and swung around and never built a company or got letterhead or I ever had a production deal or anything. It’s by far the longest time I’ve spent anywhere.”

When we asked if he would stick to “Star Wars” after “Endor” — which charts the radicalization of Cassian Endor (Diego Luna) in the years leading up to the events of “Rogue One” and describes it as a close-ended The two-season storyline—or if this is his final work in the universe—he said the latter was probably true.

“As questionable as my involvement in the community is, by the time I’m done, I’ve gotten my hands on 26 hours of ‘Star Wars’ material. I’ll be a player by the time we finish. This is what I’m sticking around right now. I guess that’s the title.”

Gilroy said his work on “Endor” really “I’m still sticking around to consider whether to produce and release ‘Endor’ Season 2,” Gilroy said. “We start shooting on Part 2 in November. And I don’t know… Our previous pattern was two years, but I mean, I’ll keep going… We’ll be shooting from November to August. And then our post[-production] Last time was about a year old.”

That probably means, at the earliest, we can expect “Endor” Season 2 (or Part Two, as Gilroy calls it) in the fall of 2024. But if the first batch is any indication, it will be well worth the wait.

It’s worth noting that Disney hasn’t announced a release schedule for “Endor” Season 2 and a 2023 release date isn’t entirely out of the question, but by Gilroy’s estimation, he’s pretty much in this specific corner. Will spend time of the “Star Wars” universe before the world saw it.
