ABC orders pilot for untitled Drew Goddard crime drama

ABC has placed a pilot order for an untitled Drew Goddard crime drama based on the popular French comedy “Haute Potential Intellectual (HPI)”.

Created by ABC Signature and executive (who will also write) Goddard Textiles and Sarah Esberg (“Okja,” “Moonlight,” “The Oye”), the series logline reads: “A single mom with three kids and an extraordinary mind Helps solve an unsolved crime when she rearranges some evidence during her shift as a cleaner for the police department when she learns that she has a high intellectual ability to keep things in order. He is brought in as a mentor to work with an experienced detective, and together they form an unusual and invincible team.”

Pierre Laugier, Anthony Lancrete and Jean Nancrick – all of whom produced the original show – will also produce under TF1’s Newen Studio, whose distribution arm sold the rights to ABC.

Goddard is an Oscar and Emmy-nominated writer, filmmaker, and producer. In 2016, he was nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay for the pen of ‘The Martian’, which he also produced. He is twice Emmy-nominated for his work on NBC’s “The Good Place” and another nomination for producing the hit drama “Lost.” He also wrote and directed “The Cabin in the Woods”, worked on Marvel’s “Daredevil” (which he produced) and EPs on “The Defenders”, as well as “Bad Times at the El Royal”. Also wrote and directed. The project follows her multi-year deal at 20th Century Fox TV, where she made her debut as a staff writer on “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”. Goddard is repeated by UTA and Hansen Jacobson.
