“What’s cool is that we’re going to introduce new characters in the second half, but there are 25, 30 characters that we’re transferring from one to the other,” Gilroy says. “You already know them, you already know a lot about them.” He goes on to say that Andor will change from the start of the series to the finale of the first season. “Also, at the end of 12 episodes, Cassian Andor has finally had some sort of training.” He continues: “It takes a long time for him to commit to the uprising, but he’s kind of there. And so in the second part, we can explore a lot of different things and then time becomes our friend.”

Gilroy says Andoro Season 1 is divided into 4 parts

Andoro takes an interesting approach to its first season, breaking the 12-episode debut into four segments, moving forward a year every three episodes. Gilroy says the style allows for exciting creative decisions and a different point of view from a narrative perspective.

Gilroy says, “We’re going to do three episodes and jump one year, and three episodes and jump — we’re going to do four years in 12 episodes,” he explains. “And I don’t know, maybe someone has done that before. I can’t think of a comparison. But from a narrative point of view, it’s like being allowed to paint with a new color or something.” Gilroy also says the time jumps will be something new for him from a writer’s perspective. “It’s a really cool storytelling opportunity after a long time of storytelling. I’ve never had a chance to do this.”

Gilroy has spent some time telling stories and has worked on projects such as the Bourne series, that Andoro has been compared to. He also wrote the screenplay for Rogue One, where the titular character comes from. Fans can watch his latest project trade shows when Andorra will be released on Disney+ on September 21.
