kids vs. Aliens takes inspiration from the director’s childhood

Director Jason Eisener has talked about how Children vs Aliens was created. The concept goes back to his own childhood when he made his own movies with friends and how a certain UFO story had always been haunting. It just seemed like the right starting point to develop a feature film.

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

Children vs Aliens was inspired by wild antics of my childhood with my sister and brother, made backyard movies with my friends, and was swept up in local folklore, such as the legend of Shag Harbour, where a UFO is said to be in the waters off Nova Scotia has crashed “As a child it crept into my nightmares and I imagined it happening in my own backyard, my family and friends running for our lives from aliens crawling from the depths.”

He added: “Making this film was a great excuse for co-writer John Davies and me to revisit the childhood dreams and fears that filled our imaginations and shaped who we are today. We wanted to make a horror adventure film with its own vast universe, like the action figures and sci-fi and horror movies we loved growing up together I remember the social anxiety of adolescence, trying to fit in with my peers – and how, in the face of terror, you realize who your real friends are I wanted this movie to feel authentic to the lawless language unruly kids use beyond the reach of grown ears, an R-rated movie that can serve as a gateway for kids to fall in love with horror movies, and a gateway to youth for adults.”
