John Oliver returned with a new episode of Last week tonight on HBO and HBO Max after a week’s hiatus. The main topic of the evening was Brazil and its President Jair Bolsonaro.
One of Oliver’s concerns was Bolsonaro’s lack of diligence in reducing greenhouse gas emissions as the country has seen an upward trend during the pandemic against the rest of the world, which has cut emissions over the same period. The South American country’s president has also received pressure to protect the Amazon as fires ravage the greenery, but the politician has fired back, saying it’s all a “nefarious conspiracy to conquer the Brazilian jungle”.
Oliver then added that Bolsonaro “directly accused Leonardo DiCaprio of financing arson in the Amazon.” The comedian found it all “absurd” as he didn’t think so titanic The actor would have time to finance something like this as he was attacking his controversial love life.
