Responding to recent jokes made by Michigan Republican gubernatorial candidate Tudor Dixon about the 2020 kidnapping plot against Gretchen Whitmer, “Morning Joe” co-host Mika Brzezinski accused the Republican Party of thinking it “It’s good to be cruel.”
Brzezinski said after introducing the subject, “I’m just adding this to the list of Republicans – they think it’s good to be cruel, and bad, and to lie and make fun of people for serious things.” “I mean, they literally, you can get T-shirts: ‘Cool to be brutal. Join the Republican Party.'”
“It seems like the GOP’s governing ethos right now is just ‘own self,’ and it’s not even a good self. It’s just disturbing, cruel rhetoric,” replied co-host Jonathan Lemire. “Gov Whitmer There was a kidnapping conspiracy against him. Arrests were made. The FBI was involved. According to officials, his life was in danger. It’s not a joke, it’s not a joke. And it’s just continuing, to your point, this growing trend. [of] Not so Republicans are cruel, but injecting the threat of political violence into our rhetoric. ,
At two campaign rallies on Friday, Dixon invoked jokes and humor, pointing to a highly publicized kidnapping plot against his Democratic rival, Whitmer. The 2020 incident led to criminal charges against six individuals and convictions against two.
Dixon is shown in a clip saying, “Sadly, Gretchen will tie your hand, hold a gun in your hand and ask if you’re ready to talk.” “For anyone worried about kidnapping, Gretchen Whitmer is certainly good at taking business hostage and holding it for ransom.”
Whitmer’s team issued a statement response over the weekend, saying: “Violence threats are no laughing matter, and the fact that Tudor Dixon thinks it is a joke shows that he is not ready to lead Michigan.” Absolutely unfit for it.”
