The Star Wars animated series The Bad Party, created by Dave Filoni, saw almost immediate success upon release. With the same animation style as The Clone Wars, The Bad Party follows the lives of a group of modified Clone Commandos called Clone Force 99, though popularly referred to as the “Bad Batch”. Together, they perform special missions that regular Clone Troopers wouldn’t be able to do and which, incidentally, in The Clone Wars‘s season 7. Every member of Clone Force 99 is defective in one way or another; genetically altered to have more skill in one battle area, from physical strength to precise sniping, they each bring something to the table.
Each member of the Bad Batch is a clone of Jango Fett, but each has their own unique changes, making them different and individual, both in skill and physical appearance, from Wrecker’s massive physical size to Tech’s incredible ability to make alarming speed calculations. The main cast members are truly a sight to behold. Of The Bad Party being renewed for a second season on Disney+, it’s only right that we look back on this masterpiece and admire the main characters. This is every main character of the bad party, arranged.
Updated September 26, 2022: If you love Star Wars: The Bad Batchyou’ll be excited to know that we’ve updated this list in preparation for the upcoming second season next year.
8 Nala Se
Nala Se was the chief scientist behind the creation of the clones that fought in the Clone Wars. She is quite a complicated figure; while she sees the clones as nothing more than disposable property, it is shown that she cares deeply about the life of Omega, an alternate female clone. When Clone Force 99 escapes from Kamino, Se deliberately goes against the orders of the Empire and aids the renegade clones in their escape. Later, when Prime Minister Lama Su sent bounty hunters to hunt the rogue clones, Nala Se hired Fennec Shand to protect her. She is later captured by the Empire in the episode “Kamino Lost” and transported to Mount Tantiss for further use.
7 Vice Admiral Rampart
Although he was introduced in the bad party, Rampart has already played a big part in shaping post-series episodes by leading the recruiting initiative responsible for the creation of the Stormtroopers, which will gradually replace the clone troopers over time. He believes the Stormtroopers would be a braver and more loyal army than the Clones and would help usher in a new era of peace and prosperity under Galactic rule. As the main antagonist of Season 1, he is fiercely committed to the Empire, but doesn’t seem to see the chaos and destruction they leave in their wake as a problem. In this case, every action of his is a means to a greater end.
6 crosshair
Crosshair, a formidable sniper with exceptional stealth skill, is a member of the Bad Batch until his inhibiting chip kicks in. As much as his comrades try to help him, Crosshair is no longer in control of his actions. He soon becomes one of the main antagonists in the show, forced to obey every order of the Empire and lead the hunt for the Bad Batch. This betrayal weighs on every member of the Bad Batch as they lose one of their own to the Empire. While Crosshair’s time is short-lived on the good side, we still see his talents blossoming, making him an equal foe to the Bad Batch.
5 Echo
A well-known name for fans of The Clone Wars, the big reveal comes because it is shown that while Echo may have died, he was resurrected and “repurposed” to join the Bad Batch. What makes Echo unique is that he’s not technically alive, which he often uses to his advantage to impersonate a droid. His appearance on the show is not just a nostalgic reminder of The Clone Warsbut adding Echo to the Bad Batch connects The Clone Wars and The Bad Party in a way that nothing else could. Needless to say, the resurrection of this beloved character was a great decision.
4 Tech
Living up to its name, Tech excels at all things technology, including finding a machine that will remove their inhibiting chips and prevent them from getting under the spell of Order 66. Thanks to his amazing knowledge and data analysis skills, Tech most to say when it comes to battlefield tactics and strategies, weighing each outcome and devising the best route for the group to take at an incredible speed that rivals that of a droid. Tech’s skills may not seem very physical, but he is a valuable asset to the team as he helps with their planning and strategy. He is the key to their success on the battlefield.
3 wrecker
Wrecker is pure brute force, given the gift of incredible strength and love for explosives. While Wrecker may seem intimidating, inside he is a big softie with a special place in his heart for Omega. While Wrecker’s physical strength is something to consider, he’s not the most intelligent member of the Bad Batch. His loyalty to the group is threatened when his inhibiting chip kicks in, and he finds himself struggling with what he feels he should do versus what he knows is right. Many fans have attributed this to its physical size, which aided chip activation, an issue that was resolved after their chips were removed.
2 Hunter
With a striking resemblance to John Rambo from the Rambo movies is Hunter, the leader of the Bad Batch. Not only does Hunter have a natural talent for keen observation and an increase in his natural hunting senses, but he also fills the leadership role with ease. He bridges gaps and makes peace as the people in the group collide and always decide what is best for their group. Hunter is an all-round accurate warrior and a compassionate leader, making him one of the best characters in the main cast. It’s obvious why many fans were devastated at the prospect that Hunter could have passed away in the 15th episode of season one, but thankfully he survived, and we have more of his leadership to look forward to.
1 Omega
Omega is a small child that The Bad Batch meets on Kamino, and although they are confused by her presence, they pay no attention to her. Omega has been sheltered all her life and has been given almost no freedom because the Kaminoans insist on observing her. Omega decides to take her life into her own hands and hides The Bad Batch, but before they can bring her home, Order 66 breaks out, turning everything into chaos. While much of Omega’s character is still a mystery, it’s clear that Omega is not only powerful in her own right, but she really is an underdog whose full strength is unknown and lives up to her name.
