Oprah Winfrey and Apple TV+ end their contract

Oprah Winfrey and Apple TV+ have ended their multi-year composite content agreement.

First signed in 2018, the agreement contained media icon and streamer production projects as part of Apple’s original content release. While the contract has expired, both the parties have stated that they will work together on a project-to-project basis.

One of those collaborations is “Oprah’s Book Club,” available at both Apple Books and OprahDaily.com.

Friday also released on Apple TV+ “Sydney,” a Winfrey-produced documentary on Sidney Poitier. Through Apple Original Films and filmmaker Reggie Hudlin, “Sydney” follows the life and career of the history-making Oscar winner.

Other highlights of Winfrey’s content deal with Apple TV+ are the mental health documentary series “The Me You Can’t See”, produced in partnership with Prince Harry, and “The Oprah’s Conversation”. However, in the non-exclusive deal of the past four years, some of the host’s biggest projects have been outside of her work with Apple, including continuing her work as head of OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Networks (which serves as the backbone of Ava DuVernay). Home of the hit “Queen Sugar”) and CBS’ exclusive interview with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

Winfrey co-founded the cable channel OWN with Discovery Communications, which renewed its contract with Mogul until 2025.
