A peaceful holiday turned unexpectedly grim

The trailer opens with the family of two dads, Andrew (Jonathan Groff) and Eric (Ben Aldridge), and their adorable daughter Wen (Kristen Cui), driving out of town to a cabin in the woods to spend some quality time together. . They spend the time singing songs and playing games during the ride, hoping to get the most out of their vacation. After arriving everyone is excited to get some peace of mind so they do all sorts of relaxing things like jump in the pond and have a drink on the balcony. At the same time, Wen is sitting outside the hut and it seems that she is either investigating insects or playing a game in her book.

While all is well, no one expected their peaceful vacation to turn bleak when a man wearing glasses arrives at their cabin and greets the little girl. After the scene, we see the credits “From M. Night Shyamalan” on the screen coupled with a knocking sound on the door, which is brilliant. The man with the glasses appears to be Leonard and based on his facial expression, he doesn’t seem to be bringing any positive news.

Strangers at the door: friends or foes?

Wen asks Leonard (Dave Bautista) why he’s in the cabin and he replies, “I’m here to make friends with you and your dads.” Those are pretty sweet words for a little girl, but Leonard claims his heart is broken by what he’s going to do today. After his words, three more strangers are seen in the direction of the hut. That’s definitely not good news, as Leonard feels guilty and exudes a creepy vibe.

The trailer shifts the focus to the next scene where the dads and girl are inside and they see four strangers knocking on the cabin at their door. Looking out the window, Eric utters the words, “There’s a woman wearing something that looks like a pickaxe with a chain and a hammer head,” in a startled tone. So far, the trailer keeps things intense and builds a sense of anticipation about what these strangers want.

A mission from God?

As the fathers ponder the changes in events, the pats grow louder and the scene changes to little girl Wen running back into the cabin from the previous scene where she met Leonard. Then Leonard exclaims, “The four of us have a very important job to do. In fact, it is perhaps the most important task in the history of the world.’ The strangers then begin banging their tools on the door in an attempt to break in, and the family is quick to secure the door and defend themselves from the culprits. However, all goes for nothing when they break in and tie Eric and Andrew to the seats, leaving the little girl in the back terrified.

The trailer ends with Leonard speaking on behalf of four strangers, all of whom are filled with guilt and fear. He quotes: “We have been called and united by a common vision, which has now become an order that we cannot ignore.” It means they have either been given a mission from God or are mentally ill. Leonard then explains their mission to be here and how the family was chosen to make a terrible decision – if they fail, the world will end. The trailer then ends with a woman with her head covered in a white mask being held hostage.

The question is, what kind of apocalypse will be triggered if the family doesn’t make a decision? And who is the woman being held hostage at the end of the trailer? Perhaps the family has chosen to save the world and themselves by capturing a person. The trailer is very intense and thought provoking, making viewers go through their heads for an answer. It’s almost impossible to figure out what’s going on in The head of M. Night Shyamalanand we can only hope to solve the mystery of Knock on the hut when the film hits theaters on February 3, 2023.
