The Live-Action Netflix Series Adds More Cast Members

Avatar: The Last Airbender is one of the most loved shows of all time. Regardless of the medium, if Avatar Being fully animated, fans around the world, both young and old, fell in love with the characters and the overarching plot, which spanned three seasons. A sequel series, The Legend of Korra, arrived in 2012 and received praise from fans and critics alike, although it may not reach the heights of the first series. Sadly, only one live-action adaptation has been released since then Avatar: The Last Airbender arrived in 2005 and received some of the toughest critical acclaim in recent memory. The Last Airbender was released in 2010, aided by M. Night Shyamalan, and received horrendous reviews from critics and fans. Everything from the tempo, the VFX and especially the casting was criticized. The adaptation was considered an utter failure, and no one has attempted to re-adapt the series for live-action.

That is, of course, until Netflix announced that they would be taking the series to a new medium with a more grounded and mature tone. Casting has been underway for the series for a while and now the streaming giant has added a few new names to its ever-growing ensemble cast list. The announcement comes courtesy of the Netflix Geeked Twitter account. The new cast members are Arden Cho as June, Momona Tamada as Ty Lee, Thalia Tran as Mai, Utkarsh Ambudkar as King Bumi, Amber Midthunder as Princess Yue and Danny Pudi as The Mechanist. In addition, two cast members are quite remarkable, with legendary Star Trek actor George Takei as Koh, and Cabbage Merchant’s original voice actor, James Sie, who reprises his role for the series.

A live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender it takes a lot of things to be a success, and Netflix has gone to great lengths so far to ensure that the series is excellent. The casting announcements have received a lot of excitement from fans as the real life counterparts both resemble their characters and have the talent needed to bring them to life. The cast list so far includes Gordon Cormier (Aang), Dallas Liu (Zuko), Daniel Dae Kim (Fire Lord Ozai), and Ken Leung (Commander Zhao), along with many more.

Filming for Season 1 of the series has already been completed, meaning we could see a trailer or more release news once the VFX portion of the show is over. Fans can expect Netflix’s live-action adaptation Avatar: The Last Airbender sometime in 2023 or early 2024.
