Comedian Trevor Noah announced Friday that he will be quitting The Daily Show after hosting it for seven years. The show’s official Twitter handle shared a five-minute, 10-second video of the comedian making the announcement.

In the emotion-laden video message, Noah said, “I remember when we first started…so many people didn’t believe in us. It was a crazy bet to make. I still think it’s a crazy choice, that random African.” As the video progressed, he shed light on all the years he’s spent on the show and how he plans to explore other avenues associated with stand-up comedy.
“I spent two years in my apartment (during Covid-19), not on the road. Stand-up was done, and when I went out again, I realized there is another part of my life I want to explore further,” added the South African comedian.

Recalling how the show was loved in several countries, including India, he went on to say: “The show has grown all over the world. I recently went to India for the first time and the people there supported everything we did on the show. “I found myself filled with gratitude for the journey. It’s been absolutely amazing. It’s something I never expected.”
Concluding his speech by mentioning that it had been a challenging task for him to host the show for seven years, Noah claimed: “After those seven years my time is up, but in the most beautiful way, honestly. I loved it to host this show was one of my biggest challenges i learned how to make people laugh even if the stories are very scary on many days we laughed and cried together… but after seven years I feel it’s time.’
The 38-year-old comedian’s announcement received a standing ovation from the studio audience.
