On Wednesday’s “The Late Show,” Stephen Colbert guest-starred as Dr. Anthony Fauci was. But instead of a traditional interview, the pair taped quite a funny sketch to promote the latest COVID-19 vaccine booster. You can now watch the full clip at the top of the page.
In the sketch, Colbert and Fauci leave “The Late Show” studio and go to a pharmacy to get Fauci the latest booster shot. Along the way, Colbert had some fun asking Fauci to prove he was a native New Yorker by repeating some famous catch phrases associated with the city.
Once they got to the pharmacy, Colbert and Fauci took a minute to walk around the store. At first Colbert joked that if the doctor needed anything, he would be willing to buy a condom for Fauci. Next, they took a detour through the Halloween section, where Colbert had a new suggestion.
“Okay, now I know you want to convince people to take this shot, right? It’s a cool thing to do. Well, more than just taking a shot with a pair of sexy kitten ears.” What could be more attractive?” Colbert said. Naturally, they both put them on and, after some cajoling, Fauci joined Colbert by saying “don’t forget to get your boosters” straight at the camera.
He then actually tried on some novelty sunglasses before proceeding to get the booster. The highlight of this part of the clip was when Colbert asked the pharmacist if he was threatening to give Fauci a booster. “It’s Anthony Fauci, it’s like pouring a drink for Jack Daniels,” Colbert joked.
“He’s really only the third most famous person I’ve vaccinated against,” said the pharmacist. This of course became Colbert’s obsession and he repeatedly tried to tell the pharmacist who else he had vaccinated with.
“I can’t tell you that,” said the pharmacist. “Yes you can,” replied a mis-disappointed Colbert. Sadly for her (but happily HIPAA compliant), the pharmacist didn’t budge.
After that, Colbert joked that Nicki Minaj’s cousin wanted her to ask if Fauci’s testicles were okay. “They’re fine,” Fauci said.
